Hi

My friend found my section d mare too strong (no brakes) in her happy mouth pelham at a show at the weekend and has mentioned using a show pelham? I saw a lot of cobs in these and wondered what you're opinion is of these?

Are they harsh?

Do you mean a Rugby Pelham? They can be used with a slip head and double reins to make it look like a double. I learnt at a showing clinic on the weekend that used without the slip head they work as a lifting bit, so the horse cannot lean on you. I use it with one and it's jointed but you can get mullen mouth ones too.

Hi
I have just bought a Sprenger Pelham for my horse, ok it was expensive but its a fab bit. I bought my bit from Ebay from a shop called Horse Heaven.

I usually ride in a french link snaffle so it's quite strong for my boy. But he does lean a bit to try and avoid work, which pulls me forward and ruins my position. He had a paddy about it on the weekend as he cannot avoid working in it by leaning and point blank refused to move at one point as he's very lazy and I don't think he was happy about having to work hard!

But I will now start schooling in it twice a week to get him used to it, which is what you will have to do if your horse isn't used to it.
