Went to my local RC show on Sunday with Nice New Sharer, we intended to take a horse each but Eric went on strike on Saturday morning before our jumping lesson with a faux broken leg so we just took the big orange one.
NNS had only ridden the lanky boy before and never showjumping (when I took him show jumping he jumped 4 foot over the 2' 9" jumps and I came off) so the (sensible) intention was to take both for a lesson on Saturday with Lovely New Instructor to see which was less likely to fling us onto the floor at speed.
Sadly Lanky boy developed an abscess so was off the road so took Orange boy and NNS to LNI for lesson where I had to explain that "he doesn't do trot" before the class
in case LNI asked for any of this unnecessary gait. NNS jumped him exceptionally well over the larger jumps when he was concentrating so I wasn't in the least worried about the following day (not for her anyway...).
We decided that (as I am a quivering wreck when it comes to jumping) I would attempt the 80cm "local" class. He jumped well as I expected (I'm not a pot hunter, I am genuinely scared
) and we went clear and straight into the jump off. Now, as Orange boy is also a brilliant polocrosse pony he is exceptional at stopping/turning/spinning so we went (I thought) rather speedily but got beat (and well beat) by two titchy ponies that went at mach10 and had no concept of gravity
NNS was next on board and warmed up briefly in the (very hilly) collecting ring. Orange was on "go-faster" mode and he sped around the ring, flattening over the jump several times before some form of control was discovered and then jumped nicely (although still heart-in-mouth fast for me). NNS went in and did a rather fast but clear round going straight into the jump off and sadly knocking the first as he flattened and then taking the first part of the double on a flyer and SMASHING it. Now, poor NNS seemed upset and didn't realise that Orange one LIKES going fast and frankly thinks he knows best and for only her 3rd time jumping him did really rather well (first time was over some plastic lawn chairs and palletts...).
Anyway, NNS was still in the ribbons as not many people had gone clear in the first round although was beaten by same dratted ponies and superhuman riders.
Next class (there was plently of time in between by the way!) was the 90cm for NNS and it was amazing! She "got" him and he realised that she "probably" knew best and they did a beautiful balanced clear and a fast but not mental jump off. Good enough to be placed 4th (behind miraculously turbo powered ponies on speed) and I was sooo pleased with him. I love him so much *sniff* and he did so well as he's not been schooled for around 6 years and gets jumped very seldom.
I have attached links to the videos for your perusal but if anyone says anything rude or mean about big O then I will hunt you down... That is all
First class- nice but fast and a couple of accidents

Second class- fantastic! Also, note the smart lead changes and beautiful self-carriage.
