George forgot to look after his Mummy today at the local showing show

we were warming up for the riding club horse class and despite my nerves we were ok (although George was quite strong), as we had to jump we popped over a tiny crosspole which he jumped nicely, he then put in 3 biggish bucks (George has never bucked before

), I just about hung on for 2 but the third floored me, I landed face down in the arena (forgot to shut my mouth

) and George accidently trod on my leg

I suppose it was worthwhile to actually cash in my £2 first aid fee

thankfully just bruised and George was ok.

I missed the class and my friend lunged him for me and I got back on and walked, trotted and cantered in the practice arena. I went in the arena for the ridden hunter class and I did the group walk, trot, canter, I was very nervous so I called it a day and the steward let me escape!

Still love George though

Never mind hun, he was probably just feeling fresh and glad to be there.

I'm sure when it gets a bit (a lot, hopefully!) warmer and he's got a belly full of summer grass he'll be less enthusiastic!

Well done for getting on and going in the next class!

xx

Awww no! naughty boyo! I have always thought Spring shows are a bit hit and miss because horses are a bit silly at this time of year... I hope it hasnt put you off going for it again?

Oh No - they have all got the devil in them at the moment, its not just George!

You did really well to get back on and do what you did... next time I am sure he will be extra careful and well behaved.

Hope you are not too sore, and I am sure George is hanging his head in shame right now.

oh dear

good for you getting back on again, glad to see that this hasn't shattered your confidence!

I expect he was just feeling full of himself what with the jump, and all the other horses etc.

Hey I always stay on for two bucks then normally am off on the third as well

whats next for you two??

Aaawww naughty George! I hope it hasn't put you off? Maybe he is just as nervous as you, I think you just need to keep at it, until he gets bored of the excitement of going to shows!!
PS my friend had an aged dresage schoolmaster that she asked me to take out as she could never ride in public (she is too nervous!!) and said horse was nice but dull at home, well he turned into psychotic raving looney horse at the comp!!! Lucky his mum was late and didn't see him broncing round the warm up with me or she would have never ridden him again.

By the way what's a first aid fee. Do you have to pay to have help if injured?

No - they take money off you for your number or extra on entries so they can give some to St. Johns or whatever for attending the show.

Naughty George, I think you should beat him and put him up for sale.....
wink.gif

Sorry to hear that, was expecting to hear great things... perhaps the whole being in the arena with others got to him
frown.gif

I hope you're ok and not feeling too bruised. I echo what everyone else has said - well done for getting back on him. What a cheeky little sod he is!! Maybe he was just showing off!

So glad that you got back on
smile.gif

I nearly put something in my post yesterday about my first show and decided not to, didn't want to put you off lol. My 'quiet' pony bucked me off twice at our first show - couldn't believe it, he had never done anything like that before, I was more worried I wouldn't be able to gee him up nevermind him get over excited! I was more shocked than hurt as I thought I knew him well enough at that time

Two days later we were at the beach for the first time and I was crapping myself

He never put a foot wrong

So I suppose the moral of the story is to expect the unexpected, love them even when you could kill them and always make sure you have a bottle of wine waiting at home to take the pain away
grin.gif

Sorry to hear this but you know he's an angel usually and I'm sure after a few more shows he'll wonder what all the excitement was about. Well done for getting straight back on and having the guts to do some of the class. Good luck for your next time out.

On the positive side at least you got back on and George seems to be feeling rather good about himself...maybe a bit too good (hence the bucking
shocked.gif
)

Lets hope it doesn't happen again. My remedy for anything sore would be a glass of wine..you deserve it

Horses eh - why do we bother??!
wink.gif

Cos we love them and they have to remind us every now and then that they are not machines and they do have a mind of their own.
Well done for carrying on - hope you are not too sore tomorrow.

Ouch!
Is this the first time you've jumped him away from home?
If its any consolation (which it probably isn't!) the first time I took my horse jumping my instructor suggested I enter him in the 1'6 class as he hadn't seen a lot of fillers etc, even though we'd been doing 2'6 in lessons. It was a little show at home, so in the same school as we'd had all our lessons etc. He got in there and got stage fright. He decided he couldn't jump while people were watching him, jammed the brakes on and sat me on a cross pole barely a foot high. Having gone in saying look at my new horse isn't he great, I felt a real pratt!

It sounds like the excitement of the occassion just got to George a bit. Keep at it, you will get there. The more he does, the less exciting it will seem.
Meanwhile I always find a good soak and a glass or 2 of wine works wonders.

Oh no! Read your post yesterday saying you were going!! Oh well never mind you did well to go and get on after the incident! Hope you are not too sore, good glug of wine will help!

Took my STUPID horse to a show last summer and he was such a prat I just didn't feel safe on him, had entered for the class, paid got my number then just chickened out. Took him back to the lorry and lunged him where he proceeded to go bonkers! So was very glad I didn't ride him in the class as I know I would have been dumped!! Just went home again with my head hung low!! At least YOU got INTO your class!!

Don't let it put you off though, next show we went to he was good as gold.... most of the time, and at least I got to do the class even if we were last!!! DOH!

Oh - how damned annoying - blinkin' horses eh? Hope you are not too sore and I am sure next time it will be better!
grin.gif

A deep hot radox bath and plenty of wine for you tonight!
