I took my older horse to our local county show, which is one of the bigger agricultural show, today despite all the rain yesterday and the chance of getting soaked but he hadn't been anywhere in ages as everythings been cancelled. Anyway he was totally full of himself and bucked his way around the ring in our first class, I couldn't stop laughing at him, he really should know better but he was just so happy to be out and as there wasn't much competition, we won it! Worked him in a bit longer for our next class, small hunter, and he was impeccably behaved and went absolutely beautifully until we came to the gallop which is his specialty, except he decided to do a whole lap of the arena in gallop and run up the backend of another horse. I wouldn't have been surprised if we'd been gated but were pulled in first!!! He was a bit tense after his gallop and didn't give a great ride and the horse in second was younger and better behaved so we got switched to second- still a good result! Although he then proceeded to buck his way around the lap of honour!

Headed into the championship, purely for experience sake as the small hunters usually don't get a look in with the big light, medium and heavy weights, and he went really well, pulled up after his gallop and didn't buck! The light and medium winners got it, and were lovely horses who are heading to Dublin next week. Then quick change of tack and into working hunter. It was a decent enough 1m track and my fellow hadn't jumped in a few weeks. I thought he might be getting a bit tired but not when he saw the jumps! Jumped clear and did some lovely jumps but was a bit fast and made a mess of the double as he chipped in at the first and then put 2 strides in. However there were only 6 clears so got called back in, the judge didn't ride him again as she'd ridden him earlier which was a shame as he was a lot more settled and probably would've given a better ride than earlier. Anyway finished up 5th which I was happy with. All in all a good day, even though his behaviour at times was disgraceful, most of the time he went really nicely for me and jumped well, the ground was lovely and the rain stayed away and I came home with vouchers for 100kg of horse feed (luckily the brand I use) and 90 euro.

Thanks, it was at Tinahely. I havn't got anything entered in Dublin this year- entries way too expensive and although my boy would probably do well in small hunter and has beaten the horses who won it the last few years, I can't rely on him to behave. Probably head up to watch, though not sure what day yet, when's the meet up?
