I've had a bit of a problem looking for a show saddle for my RoR show horse. He's a typical TB ex-racer with razor withers to die for due to the usual atrophy. I've been looking at the Ideal Ramsey, and the Fylde's - but they all seem to come with the tagline "thin panels to maximise contact with the horse"... Not alot of good when its wither clearance your after! Can anyone suggest any saddles before I go down the very expensive route of having one made for him? Thanks :)

I'm not sure whether it would be suitable for the level you show at but I show in a Meadowcreek Middleton on my ex racer. It is marketed as a GP but is relatively straight cut ,hardly any knee roll and gives good wither clearence . I found the same issue when looking for saddles full stop and this seemed like a good compromise.

this is the best picture I have (excuse the terrifyingly poor turnout and the lardy thighs :) )

kent and masters or fairfax high wither gp? then you can adjust as he gains muscle? not a showing saddle but i think you'll struggle to find a showing high with saddle!

I've got a narrow fitting Derby House WH saddle for my mare with very high withers, no longer used. What tree size is your ned?

What about a dressage saddle and get the girth straps changed or a vsd? Kent and masters do a fab range for high withered horses- really well designed and they do a high wither dressage saddle.

High wither doesnt necessarily mean narrow and they have various changeable width fittings.

Thanks guys - I'm specifically after a show saddle though. I'm currently riding in a VSD, but really want a show saddle as we compete in affiliated straight riding horse classes too. He's in medium-narrow at the moment, so probably looking at a medium-narrow or medium (by the time you put a wool numnah underneath!). Any other thoughts? :(
