Hi, I just want everyones opinions on show sheen. I know that some people believe that it drys out the coat or its completely useless, or you shouldn't need it if your horse is fit and healthy.

Personally, I don't use it as all my horses are fit, healthy and have a natural shine. However, I may use it a big showing competitions just as a touch up here and there.

Anyway, I need your help, as I have a showing championships coming up and my boy needs clipping before then.(thinking either blanket clip or hunter clip) However, as it is quite big I was planning to dig out and use my show sheen as a touch up. But the problem I have is that will the show sheen still work if he is clipped? Sorry I know it sounds a bit dumb but I really need to know.

Also another thing I would like to know is if anyone has any other showing tips and tricks that they use? I have been showing for my whole life, mainly show ponies. However, due to now moving up I have a hunter type now. I know the basic tips and tricks of showing hunters example spare gloves, draw on quarter markers and not spray on, baby oil to enhance points, trimming ears, shaving beard etc etc but I was wondering if there was any other tricks that I should know about.

Thanks :)

Feed linseed. The shine comes from within. I can't see how you can show a hunter with a blanket clip. Assuming you are aiming for early shows next year, I would full clip through the winter and start leaving lights on after xmas.

Rug according to the weather.

Keep him clean and hot clothed. A wipe with very dilute pig oil is all he will need to look the part.

I think showsheen is fabulous stuff! I dont use it long term and only for shows but it really does give a lovely sheen and it is great for nice silky tails unlike a lot of the mane and tail sprays out there which leave them feeling coated in product and stuck together!

My best tip for white socks is to mix chalk powder with water to a yoghurt like consistency and paint on with a brush the night before - brush off in the morning with a dandy brush and you have blinding white legs, never fails!

I agree ^^^^^ show sheen will not do much once clipped but hot clothing will especially with some pig oil. Love the stuff!
