Does anyone have any suggestions about how to keep my IDxWB 7yo mare sane when I first arrive at a show? She travels well and stands in the trailer fine, but when I get her out she is a nightmare, spinning away, pulling back, etc. She is fine when we get in the arena. I have tried lunging and giving her a long warm-up at the competition but it just winds her up even more. I have taken to leading her to the arena, getting on and going straight in, which I know does not solve the problem!! Any suggestions are gratefully received.

I just wondered if you've only shown her when she's in season? That could be a problem if theres stallions around?

If thats not the case, do you have a few friends that could maybe help you represent a show on a smaller scale to get her used to it?

Do you know anyone with a very quiet horse you could go with- kind that will stand and eat hay quietly? Maybe it'd kind of rub off on her?
If she's good on roads could you take her for short hack when you get there so she can use that nervous energy and be allowed to walk out.
Only other thing I can think of is to keep at it- take her out as much as you can, make sure you're relaxed and hopefully she'll get used to it. Good luck!!!
