Any help please? Assuming it is just keep everything natural? What sort of tack is correct?

I am hoping to take a pony I have in at the moment to a fairly low key Showing competition at the end of the month. He is a purebred New Forest and is green so definitely classed as a Novice. We will be doing the M&M Ridden and the Novice Open pony class. :)

Unplaited for the M&M but I'm not sure about the other class, is it a breed class? If it's a general riding class I think plaited. Hunter bridle (that's the one with the flat cavesson noseband). "Novice" doesn't mean what it usually means, it isn't weather they're green or not, it's either age related or whether they've ever won/placed before in a similar class, check with the show secretary what the rules are. Saddle shaped numnah that is either same colour as pony or saddle, or remove it altogether and go without. No martingales/boots/bandages for either class. Pelham or double for the M&M, but you could use a snaffle for a local show, snaffle is ok for a novice class too.

You can pull his mane and tidy it up, remove his beard and neaten his feathers, you need to be in tweed preferably one that complements his colour. Plain tack, no bling and a neat numnah not a pad if you use one, everything clean and shiny, most people wear long boots as new forests whatever height are large breed. For novice classes a snaffle is usually worn and a short well done simple show is much better than a long ambling one, make sure he will trot in hand in case you have to strip.
Really good concise correct turnout details on the new forest pony site, have fun.
