What are your opinions on colours of tweeds to suit a dapple grey?

I've never really done alot of showing, but hope to get out to some county level shows this year (hunter and ID classes)

My tack will be dark brown.

I currently have an inexpensive blue tweed, but am not sure if that's what would be preferred?

brown or green tweed. a blue tweed will look out of place in the county show ring. In hunter classes you would be best off without a velvet collar.

As connie girl says, green or brown are most acceptable. Dark green with a mustard and red check would look lovely - you will need something quite strong. Would think that brown would be too dull. If you have the dark green, then a mustard or red tie would be a nice contrast. Most of the jacket websites have their samples on line. Try Alexander James as they have an excellent selection. Also, buy as heavyweight a jacket as you can manage (wool) as this will hang better than the lighter cloths.

Thanks so much!!

That's the feeling I got about the Blue tweed! I think it looks nice, but it was a cheapy, and from having a squiz at the county types, it did look distinctly out of place!

I'm gonna have a look at the link you've suggested

My hubby has a beautiful tweed that is similar to the top swatch you just posted. He bought it because the cut of it suited his shape, but I'm sure he'll be over the moon it was a good choice now

Now where do I buy a worn looking Beagler!!

I notice they all looked like they'd been left out in the rain for a year

Is that the answer, by a smart newy and leave it out in the rain?

You can leave them in the back of the car window for a day or so - that fades them fast!

I sold my dark green tweed and got a mustardy one. I now have changed horses and have a chestnut and a grey horse and think I am going to have to purchase another dark green tweed. Typical!

Very expensive! I also find the Equiport are cut quite fashionably - probably not as traditional as Alexander James, Pretty Ponies, Designer Browbands etc which are more traditional cuts. You should get a good quality jacket from this lot for well under £200.

Definitely go and try them on - all mine at AJ at the moment and you can get a nice HW jacket. I will attach a pic to show: The top one is the tighter fitting one which is lighter in colour, the lower one is a bit too big, but dark green which I think is a better colour. This is the one I will probably buy next time I see their stand.

navy (although brown and green are sometimes seen in M&M classes). Avoid black. Only men should wear black hunting caps in the show ring. If you are doing hunter classes, then navy (with a flesh coloured harness) is correct.

I bought an Alexander James jacket last year and its fab, its green with red and blue stitching like the top tweed in Fmm's post. It looks fab, its got a navy collar so goes really well with my navy hat and I wear a red tie with it.
I did have a pretty ponies jacket which was a very nice fit but I didnt like the tweed, I wanted green!!

I think if you go and try some on, fit is everything, you could have a really nice tweed that looks great on the hanger but on you it could look awfull, so see what suits you.
