Show us what you do best =]

I help problem ponies. The real last chance ponies who have nowhere else to go.

(I still can't watch it but hope you enjoy).

I've said it before, I know, but you truly are an inspiration. Your achievements and dedication really help me to persevere with Belle and I hope that one day she and I can have even 1/2 the relationship that you build with your beautiful ponies. *hugs Laura and Herbie and makes a wish for little Lucy*

awww those sad ones are very sweet, but the good thing is that the horses lived a great life with you =]. to the above /\ i think anyone who can get their horse to jump the corner fences are pretty good :P they look impossible!

dreamcometrue... which bit of yorkshire are you in? We're in the north york moors.

Ron does hunting best, but anything that involves jumps is fine by him! He also does sleeping and eating very very well!

The first time I have ever jumped and I'm an old lady!! I know the fence is small but in my head it was 6'!! :)

Zoomy is good at being brave! We are not really very good at anything....but we're a team!

Despite only having one eye and only playing polo until she is 10 she will give anything a go! She is the sort of horse that really tries for you and that's what I love about her. She is quite sharp and fizzy but I trust her so much since she is so willing. In 2 1/2 years of having her we have gone from this:

She's given me so much confidence.....love my pony :D

What a great thread jumpinghorse. I look forward to reading lots of inspirational replies.

Solo hacking for us.

It may not sound like an amazing thing to do but this horse was bought as a horse that will not hack alone and this proved to be true. He was a dangerous compulsive bolter-home if attempted to hack alone.

6 months of careful work and he is the best off roader and long distance lone hacker. I love him for it!

I'd really appreciate hearing how you did that. I've got one that has terrible homesickness and while it seems to be getting better, I'd still like to hear about other methods as they may help him even more.

This is Rowan. My 3 year old future dressage horse and what he does best is showing off his flashy paces :P I don't know if its being optimistic saying he is my future grand prix horse but would like to get to prix st george with him :)

Oh it was a long process. When I first got him he would hack out reluctantly but after the honeymoon period he would turn and bolt home 2 miles if he had to. Couldn't turn him or stop him and that was in a gag. I threw it away! It got so bad that I couldn't even get him out of the yard. He was scarily dangerous. I got lots of advice from "turn him in circles" (hopeless, have you seen the build of him!) he can gallop with his head pulled round to my boots! and the other extreme "give him a good leathering"!

So I just used my common sense and dealt with it as total anxiety on his part. He is besotted with other horses and very upset if left alone. I thought he needed to know that he was always going to come home and that he could rely on me.

First step, I tacked him up and led him to the yard gate and then turned round and led him back to the stable. I did this every day until he was happy with it. I talked to him all the time and gave him the odd treat.

Next I led him about a hundred yards down the road from the yard gate and then back again. Again every day until he was fine with it.

Next I increased the distance to about 200 yards.

Then I led him out 200 yards and mounted and rode him home. I did this for several weeks, gradually increasing the distance. Always leading him out then riding home.

Next step was riding out and home but I went back to the small distances again and gradually increased them.

Finally I was able to ride him on a hack that was a fairly short loop, around half and hour. By then we had cracked it.

One thing that helped was using a bit with full cheeks because if he did try to spin and turn then I could make him go a full circle back to the right direction. I used a full cheek snaffle then moved on to a pelham but rarely needed to engage the curb.

I have to say that the process built an incredibly strong bond between us. We are well known intrepid hackers now. He may not be conformationally perfect and not very talented in the arena but I love that little dude!

I wish you the best of luck with yours. It is not an insurmountable problem, just needs little steps and patience.

Thought i'd post this pic from today...

she wouldn't go within 10 metres radius of a pole once ! i've now jumped her up to 4ft 2. but i'm more proud of this as it is 'scary' :)

oh and eta- excuse the bad legs and large hat- i had to use my sisters hat and length stirrups for a quick jump !

Haven't tried any ridden shows yet, so the siggy pic says it all-first in Cob Class, Patchetts. Quite glad to send this to his seller who cursed me for clipping his legs and said I'd 'destroyed' him. Ha! I keep being told he's a star in the making-of what, I dunno!:D
