Hubby has agreed to cleaning out half of our double garage so I can use it as a tackroom. I'm a bit stuck for organisation ideas, eg., storing rugs, saddles, bits and bobs in a way that I can still find things etc. Anyone got any piccies of their organisational skills?

you might not get too many people post pics of their tackrooms due to the amount of thefts going on at the moment.
mine is all at home under the stairs, saddle & bridles hung on a dolly that is winched into the ceiling out the way.
everyting else is in garage stored in 2 old large steel school lockers.

ooh, didn't think of that - about theft. Ok, any ideas about storage - I love the idea of a dolly for the saddle.
I also like the clear drawer plastic units from Wilkinsons for storing brushes and hoof oil and the like.

Must show you all my ideal tackroom - if I won the lottery!

Rotchana nooooo this isn't your's?????
surely taken from a advertising magazine of photoshoot or something?!?!

(If not - can I have you're place please

) I'm neat, tidy and well trained!)

ahhhh Yes - I'm also in love

one day, when I've worked hard enough and wished and wished and WISHED...it will all be mine
smile.gif
And i'll be a very happy chicken!

my tack room works well... it is a long narrow room. we have a long row of bridle racks on one wall...with built in boxes underneath for boots, bits, etc. Above bridles are two rows of shelves for shampoo etc and medical stuff. after the bridle racks we have four folding rug racks that hold 4 rugs each (more when doubled up) for show/travel/exercise sheets. next to each rug rack we have a heater, so its lovely and cosy!

on the opposite side there are the saddle racks in two rows. under the saddle racks are more boxes for hats, body protector gloves etc. then at the end we have another row of hooks for lunging gear and spare head collars and ropes.

Well, it WAS a tackroom originally

as I only have a handful of saddles and tack that lives in the pumproom, waste of space me having a whopping great room to myself.. It still has all the racks and stuff, and yes, it is insulated and heated, which is why OH, very sensibly, took it over as a workshop.
If anyone cares to come and rob me, feel free, everything is insured. Come in for a coffee on the way out because you'll have jolly well deserved it.

Havn't got one.

Saddle lives in the garage at home (much to OH's disgust)
Rugs and stuff out of use/wrong season are locked in the shed.
Daily used stuff locked in a big box at the stables on the farm yard behind 2 padlocked gates and 2 dogs on chains.

you don't wanna see ours it's rat infestedd :'(

but ours is made of stone a long but short room, with seven saddle racks on the right with all our feed and other stuff. then on the left the lucky four liverys get wooden boxes for other stuff. then a fridge a kettle a sink and a bin. Rugs etc are kept over hay and straw but mine are kept in my brothers caravan.

I'm also in love with the dream tack room

I will describe mine - saddle and bridle racks on each wall with rug boxes under (bit of a faff getting rugs out but never mind). Girths on a saddle stand and a couple of those plastic cupboards and a set of plastic drawers. A mega-thick door with two, four-lever mortice locks on, a welded set of window bars bolted into the wall behind the toughened glass and a burglar alarm wired to the mains - oh, and ALL my saddles are stamped with my postcode and house initials
wink.gif
Walls are three bricks thick and the pitched roof is tiled and felted.

I could say a pack of hungry rottweilers live in there, but I would be lying

For the afore mentioned reasons, not inclined to post photos. Sadly not like Rotchana's photo!

Can I suggest you take a look at the Horse Requisites (Newmarket) site. They sell everything and more that you could want for a tack room.

I'm happy to recommend the free standing rug racks (seen a small barn become lopsided from the weight of hanging rugs) and the shelf that has hat storage with hooks below.

I keep my tack and the massage pad in the house.

OMG

progress I suppose.
Did they knock the Officers Mess down just inside the gates? I lived in the big house inside the walled garden right at the bottom corner.

Yes I believe they did, it is now part of Tesco's car park, the old church opposite is now Skaterham (skate boarding centre) and where St Lawrence's hospital was is now another big housing estate!
Just been past the old barracks site going down to the Fox to take the dogs for a walk, Oz

I share my tackroom with the other liveries.

We all have two bridle/headcollar pegs and a saddle rack. I have a wooden chest underneath which I keep spare numnahs, girths, exercise sheets, lunging equipment and so on in. I have a hairdressing trolley I keep my boots and bandages plus any other odds and ends in.

Rather handily, we also have a kettle, heater and a box of biscuits!

Good luck to anyone wanting to break-in - the door is hard enough to open with a key, let alone without one!

i'll describe mine too!
saddles all on 1 wall, waist height off ground, double pole racks, saddle goes on lower one, numnah goes on higher one to air. space underneath for storage boxes.
bridles all on another wall, at head height, storage underneath.
more storage on back wall - for boots, bandages, gamgee, 1st aid trolley, farriery kit, etc.
more storage on 4th wall - plastic boxes filled with spare saddlecloths etc, all on racks.
saddlehorse in the middle.
multi-hooks from ceiling, for tack cleaning, drying damp stuff, hats, bodyprotectors, hi-viz etc.
oil filled radiator keeps it all warm all winter.
it's about 10' x 10' but could do with being bigger tbh. no space for rugs, travely boots etc, they're elsewhere!
that pic is just divine, i want 1 like that!

Don't have a photo of ours ('ours' to be intended as the one at my yard) unfortunately; however, it's very simple -- wall on the right of the door has all the saddle racks, wall to the left has all the bridles, wall facing the door has a large window and double bridles on the left of the window, lunging stuff on the right.

Everything (saddle & bridle racks) are made of wood.

It's nice but I'd rather have the one in the photo

mine at the moment looks like a bomb has hit it. I'm in the process of moving in so there is stuff everywhere.

B&Q do some black plastic shelf units which I can thoroughly recommend - im currently trying to fit 3 horses worth of stuff on them...

when its done i wil take a pic, but right now its just one big cramped pile of wood pellets, rugs and assorted items waiting to be put somewhere!
