Hi I’m new to the forum and hoping one (or lots) of you experienced souls could help me out! I have a 2yr old warmblood colt that I am hoping to show in sports horse and hunter inhand classes this year. He was homebred, have excellent blood lines, temperament etc in fact he is a real sweet heart and I hope to keep him entire and eventually breed from him. Would love to take him out this year to “see the world” but I’m a complete showing novice and to be honest have no clue….! Would really appreciate advice on dress (me), tack (him) and any rules applying when showing a colt/stallion (if any)??? Thank you

Right, dress depends on what you are showing him as, if you are showing him in sport horse/hunter classes at a county show you really should be in tradition cream trousers, tweed, tie and shirt and beagler or similar. If you were at a warmblood breed show or similar you should dress in black trousers and a white shirt, the horses plaits should also be white taped(but not at a county show).

Also is he a hunter type? As if he is more sporty then he won't do so well in the hunter classes, my filly is tbxhann and has been hunter champ aswell as reserve sport horse but it depends on type.

Thank you for good advice, I will definitely read your other posts. He is more of a sporting type really (a TB type of Wb) but we are doing it more for the experience than the rosettes, at least initially. Was hoping to do the sports horse classes at the county shows but as a complete novice feel I have to get as much experience as possible.

Would love to see photos!

I, too have a 2yr old sports horse colt. (The coloured in my sig)
He was shown at a handful of shows last year for experience and will do the same this year.

I'd echo severnmiles in what she's said and would just add that the sportshorse classes are judged on the triangle, so you'll need to practise that. With a big moving horse it can be difficult to turn once they've got into their stride!

Also, at the warmblood breed shows, handlers often wear all white, but as my boy has white legs, I will defo wear lack trousers.......don't want them confusing my legs for his!
