My friends 19 year old mare's tail has fallen out over the last few days (see dramtaic tail loss thread). She is due to be shown in a Veteran class and Young Handlers at the end of the month. There is no hope for regrowth in such a short time and attaching a false tail is out of the question. There isn't anything left for it to attach to and its against the rules any.

I haven't seen the mare but will be on Friday but by all accounts there is literally no tail left and only a little left on her dock.

So would you still show her. The young lad due to show her is so upset.

I was thinking, as a judge, would I really be put off my the lack of tail. I would ask the reason out of curiosoity but I think if the horse was in show condition then why not. I've seen hundreds of horses with little mane still shown so why not the tail, although not the norm. What do you think?

If she was mine, I'd clip any tufts off her dock (if she has any hair left at all) so that she is neat and tidy and take her to the show anyway. I would expect to lose marks but it shouldn't make an impact in the 'young handler' class in particular.

There's a horse around here that shows with no tail and wins!!! It won the veterans at Bridgend County on Saturday I think.

I used a false tail for my horse a few years ago. How much hair has she got? As you will need a bit to attach the false tail too. You get a wrap to go on the dock then attach the tail to the dock, the wrap hides the tail attachment. If you need any more details please PM me.xx
