Hi everyone,
I got given a horse last year who used to be an eventer until he was injured. The girl who used to own him claimed loss of use as an eventer on his insurance. basically he is fine but he wouldnt be good enough doing demanding eventing exercise everyday. All i want to do is take him to my local show and do a few small jumps. will it be ok or is it illegal/breaching the insurance rules or whatever!

I'm in a very similar situation to you and am waiting for my insurance certificates, will let you know when I get them. It should say on your insurance documents, if it doesn't you should ring the insurance company to make sure, maybe even ask your vet if necessary. What was his loss of use for if you don't mind me asking? Nx

Well he is supposed to have fallen off a bridge backwards onto one of his hocks and has supposed to have developed djd (degenerative joint disease). But the girl who used to own him was a spoilt brat and she probably just wanted a new horse so got the vet to exaggerate things a bit because he has no signs of it whatsoever and we have had various specialists coming to see him and say he is fine! Unfortunately we dont have his old insurance docs and he is not insured now (we have a bank account for their vet fees). Also im not in contact with the previous owner so all i know is that he is loss of use as an eventer.

well then if he isnt insured now then i would think that you could do what you want with him. nothing stopping you. What can the insurance people do to you?

You can do what you like with him, the LOU is there to protect unsuspecting buyers and insurance companies. If he is fit an able then go for it. Obviously if you have to strip for showing it may go against him but thgat would down to the judge.

Cool thanks for all your replies, Iv got to go out and buy all the stuff for showing now because iv never done it before....oh dear my poor bank card!
