Hi all!

I have had a New Forest X on loan for a few months now and having lost a bit of weight and worked on our schooling we are ready for some local (unaffiliated) shows!
Now I just need to know how to turn him out - how much trimming and tidying should I do for M and M ridden and workers? Do I actually need to take anything off - I have only shown the super hairy, no trimming allowed before?!
Here he is schooling this morning

And for comparison this is what he looked like at the end of December!

Thanks very much!

If he is a New Forest x he will only be able to do M&M part bred or local shows that are open to unregistered ponies.
If you want to turn him out as a NF his mane looks to be about the right length, he can have his jaw line and ears tidied, his tail could be shaped a little at the top if it is very thick but should not look pulled and it can be trimmed at the bottom to suit him, not too short but so it is carried above the ground rather than dragging too low.
Tack and rider the same as other M&M smart and discrete.

Nothing useful to add I'm afraid! But just wondering how on earth have u got his mane looking as nice as that?!! I have a nf and her mane is wild... I've trimmed, pulled and plaited and left over night, only to still b left with a wild looking mane! Crazy pony mane!

no idea about turnout but im looking at NF x, what height are you and him? the 1 i looking at is young so want an idea of how he might fill out

He has quite a thin mane which sits on the right side all by itself so its pretty easy. I just brush it with a hair brush when I groom and hey presto!

Caroline23: Bailey is abour 14.2hh but Im only 5ft . Saying that he is quite wide but he isn't a full New Forest so the height might have come from what he is crossed with?

Full neck rugs can be very useful, provided you make sure it is all put over on the right side when you put the rug on. Has to be over a period of time to train the mane to grow over that way.
