i have no experiance in showing what so ever - unless you class 'most handsomest gelding' as one - ive done nothing. ive got a 4 year old NF pony who is 12.2hh and i want to get him out in the summer to some shows. he would obviously be inhand, but i have no idea what classes we can do or where to start. what i need to wear, and if hes in a bridle or white headcollar. so if someone could give me a bit of info, id be very greatful :)

I had a newfie pony and would do m+m classes with him, but gave up showing him after a while as the judges always seemed to favour the flashier native breeds, even if they were disobedient or had some conformational flaw... He was very correct in both conformation, paces, and worked in a beautiful outline, but always was a bit plain, bless him.

Not really helpful, but I would say you'd get better feedback if you entered him in classes specifically for newfies, rather than just general mountain and moorland classes!

I show foresters. My youngster i have in a white rope show halter, but for the older horses inhand i use an inhand bridle. M&M Classes are what i generally do, it's good to do classes just for newfie's but a lot of smaller shows don't do those. Good Luck!

Oh & i wear white or black trousers with a white show shirt & black waistcoat or jacket with a tie & smart hat. It doesn't really matter what you wear so long as you are able to run with the horse easily & it's smart & presentable! :)

A brown bridle would be correct for a Forester that is out of youngstock classes. Foresters are classed as M+M large breeds so if he is only 12.2hh he is going to look like a proper tiddler stood next to an up to height Sec D for example  :D Mine gets a bit dwarfed sometimes and she's 13.2hh. However, there is no mimimum height for Foresters, any decent M+M judge should know that and not mark you down just for being small. Classes for NFs do seem to be quite thin on the ground. Apart from at Ponies UK I think mine has only ever been in a NF class twice :(

The horrid ones only 12.2hh but last year he won a forester class beating an upto hight forester. He is a good example of a forester and although gelded now (someone forgot to tell him though :p) He passed both his stallion gradings (from what I can work out in his passport) :D :D
Luckly I live in the new forest so lots of fshows have classes just for NF and even special classes for forest bred ponies :D :D. I havn't yet shown him as a large breed M&M. I think we may look abit odd :(.
BSJAlove sorry i'm not much help to you i'm new to this showing melarky myself. I show Horrid in his bridle (which is Black    Must buy a brown one for this summer  ) with a lead rein attached to the bit and I show him in my ridden showing outfit. But he is technacly a ridden animal (He'll be 10 this year) So I think this is right  It's so confusing isn't it this showing stuff. Good luck with your newfi he's so cute, I hope you have lots of fun with him. :D :D :D

Laura I remember seeing pics of your Forester before, he is a nice example of the breed :) but the one thing I would have pulled you up on was your turnout, smart yes but also incorrect :( Jodhpurs and long boots should never be worn for in hand showing regardless of the pony's age. It should always be trousers, light if your pony has dark legs and dark if your pony has light legs :)
