Showing a Welsh B. Plaited/trimmed or natural?

My daughter is takeing a Welsh B to a local show. For best turned out/style and apearance etc should it be trimmed and plaited. Do you show b's plaited in Mountain & Moorland? For turn out do you not trim but plait? Would love to leave him un-plaited. He suffers bad with sweet itch. He got a new sweet itch rug which didn't work and rubbed half his mane away overnight. It may be a local show but they think they are Olympia!

Alot of that doesn't make sense. Sounds like i want to stick bits back on for M&M

Do i or don't i trim?

I think for a local show, you would get away with some plaits for this class, if it was a county show ie MM class then no. But for a fun class at local level, it wont matter....enjoy and good luck

Pure bred natives are shown unplaited.

Found this on a web site about showing Welsh B's -
Manes may be trimmed and tails squared off. Jawlines and outer ear may be tidied. Working ponies may be body clipped only.

B's are the only welsh's that can be trimmed and platted.

When I judge tack & turnout / turnout & condition classes I take in to account what is correct turnout for the animal I'm looking at.........(I'll never forget the judge who marked our hogged show cob down in a T & T class because he wasn't plaited.........!!!). If you are hoping to how him in registered M & M classes later on don't fully trim as it won't grow back quickly enough!!

no welsh B's are not plaited however can you not trim him up and show him as a hunter pony, very often welsh B's will double as hunter ponys without too much problem.
The mane unfortunately is unlikely to re grown in time this season. so its hunter pony plaited or m&m with half a mane

If you look at showing pics of Welsh B's a lot of them look suspiciously like they have pulled manes!

pulled yes, plaited no. you'll find that most natives have an awful lot of trimming done to them, but it is an art form to make it subtle and look natural. welsh b's can get away with the most trimming of all the native ponies.
