I am thinking about taking my mare to a local show to do an in hand class. Showing is a bit of a new ball game to me havent done since I was in pony club and that was a few years ago. Should she be shown in a bridle or a white rope head collar? She is a reg welsh d 4 year old. And what should I wear?

Many thanks very excited as it will be my first outing since last year when my old boy had to retire from eventing!! : )

i show mine in a white thick rope halter and i wear cream/beige trousers (actually from next) and a fitted white shirt with a tie and sometimes a hacking/tweed jacket on top. be prepared to run very fast!!!! i wear brown jod type boots with good grip!!

Thank u for your quick reply, do u have a lot of control with rope halter, she is very good to lead and handel but never been to a show before? Where is the best place to buy? Thanks again

i tend to bridle her until the last min then whip the halter on just before i go in the ring. i wouldn't lead mine round the show ground without a bit in her mouth!! however yes i find the halter gives reasonable control. i use one with a part chain leadrope so bit more control. i got mine off ebay for about £30. it is really smart tho and washes up very well.

hav fun!! i tend to find as soon as welshie d's know they are there to be looked at they turn into the biggest show off's ever!

think white halters do look best with welshie d's, especially if they have white socks. robinsons have a nice one for around £7.
good luck and can we see some pics please
