Basically, I have not long purchased a traditional cob yearling and would like to try my hand at showing him. Does he need a halter or bridle to show in? He is a gelding standing at at 13.2hh now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Plain leather inhand bridle being a youngster, should be just plain leather, with a leather lead. If he is bitted then have metal coupling off the bit to the leather lead.

Shown in natural state.

You - show jacket (tweed) pale yellow shirt, tie, trousers (should complement his leg colour, so if black legs - pale trousers, pale legs - brown/black trousers) smart shoes which are easy to run in and a hat (beagler, show hat - velvet with flesh straps, or in hand flat hat)

That help?

I have shown my little chap since he was 18 months - I started with a rubber in hand bit but soon changed to a small ring copper peanut snaffle which he far preferred.

This is our turnout

I am wearing dark brown trousers and dark brown boots which are suitable to run with. I also now have a really nice dark brown jacket and gold/mustard tie which suits him better than the dark green tweed.

This is our other turnout - you can also wear a trilby, but do note that some shows insist on hard hats for showing youngsters.

and this is him strutting his stuff as a three year old at the WCC champs.

Hope you have as much fun as I have had with my chap - and you then blink and they are out under the saddle - time has flown for me with Stinky.

Sounds like you are going to have a larger trad - Stinky was 13.3 as a yearling and is now just over 15 hands as a rising 5 and his bum is slightly up again.

If I can help you with anything else, PM me.
