Hi,

I am aiming to got to an area show which is a qualifier to take part in large breed M&M in hand and ridden..my girl be ing a purebred NF from the NF. My question(s) is/are this:

Do I have to use a pelham or similar (she goes really nicely in a NS team up)?
Can I use my black GP saddle...all my tack is black?
Can I wear a black hunt jacket instead of tweed?
Can I wear black boots instead of joddy boots only?

As you can imagine I'm glad she is a native as it cuts out all that plating and tail trimming thing.

Hi you should always show M&Ms with a green or brown tweed jacket. Depending on your age long boots are correct with a shirt and tie to complement your riding hat and colour jacket.

Your pony should wear brown tack which is the correct colour for the show ring. At lower levels of showing this will probably be over looked but if you are planning to show at a higher level then you should aim at replacing your tack to brown. I would see how you get on at this show and if you do well maybe invest in a colour swap. Ideally your saddle should be straight cut to show the ponies shoulder off.

For either in-hand or ridden you really need a tweed jacket, in hand you should wear light coloured trousers if your pony has dark legs and dark trousers if your pony has light coloured legs. You should carry a showing cane to match the colour of your shoes, jacket i.e. brown jacket - brown shoes brown cane.
I would show in an inhand bridle and on the ridden class if your horse is not used to a pelham or double bridle then stick to what it goes best in. Obviously gags and the like are not acceptable in the show ring unless in the jumping phase of WH classes. It is accepted that young novice horses are shown under saddle in simple snaffles.

Look on ebay for good quality tweed jackets, i got a barbour one very cheaply and it looks fab.

Best of luck.
