Okay so i think that is it! anything else or anything i have forgotten, also any tips would be greatly appreciated!! oh and what are the best shampoos/ shiners and any tip for when we have to do the trot up to get the sweat marks off of him!, thank-you!!:p

Sounds like you're both going to look great! Would love to see some piccies after the event.

The only think I would say, anyone out there that knows different please correct me, but I don't think spurs are acceptable for a rider under 16.

As for the shampoos etc, I use Fly Away shampoos and find that Canter Coat Shine and Canter Mane and Tail Conditioner, are unbeatable. Have also just found CDM Stain Remover, it works wonders on grass/muck stains etc just before you go into the ring, doesn't need any water just spray on!

Good luck!!!

Wear long boots- you may be under 16 but IMO short boots on a hunter would look wrong! Apart from that, all sounds fine :) Good luck!

Just make sure you check the rules - some show's don't allow anyone under 16 to compete on a horse :)

Have you any beige jods? They are more "correct" for hunters than yellow ones :)

Have fun :D

Thank-you everyone!,
yes i can defo enter even tho im under 16, - this was the only class i could do! i wanted to do small hunter, but the rider had to be over 16

as for long boots.. looks like i will have to pleed with mother!! ;);):D:p

also, if the judge has to ride your horse, who gives them a leg up?

You need a groom in the ring to get the sweat marks of a cotton cloth and body brush normally does the trick. Your groom should bring this in at the appropriate time. The judge will have a steward that will give them a leg up. Leave your top rein (bradoon rein) over the saddle ready for the judge to pick, leave the curb rein hanging. The steward may request that you alter your stirup lengh for the judge. You should definitley be wearing long boots. You said you wanted to do the Small hunter? If your horse is indeed a small and you are in an open hunter class (mixed weights) you will not be eligable!

Good luck :D
Sounds like you've got everything good to me, IMO Hibi scrub is great as a shampoo then maybe another wash with a shampoo suited to your horses colouring? O and dirty beasty smells amazing!

You sound pretty organised but agree with above that long boots are needed really. Also beige looks better for hunters.
I wash mine with a general animal shampoo then again with the Gallop colour enhancing shampoo (you can buy little bottles for about £1 and it works really well). Pantene is brilliant for manes and tails! Also to finish use Mane and Tail and Absorbine Show Sheen. The Judges steward will give a leg up but you need to make sure your stirrups and leathers will be big enough. Also get your helper to wear a hat when they enter the ring as I've just discovered its considered rude to the judge if they enter bare headed - whoops! Good Luck!

Your groom may well be required to wear a riding hat, at some shows this is a stipulation.

I am eligable, it is callled local hunter, and the only rule is that the rider must be a member of the local hunt! Thank-you for all the other advice!

I also do very high level showing ie hoys classes ;) and on a HUNTER trust me you will not ever be correct wearing brown jodpur boots.

Not correct to wear short boots, but if it is a local hunter and you can't get a pair, it won't stop you from entering, do you have a pair of gaiters or what boots do you hunt in, as a pair of long rubber riding boots would be adequate

I have now got my hands on a pair of long leather boots so i'm all sorted!

As you compete at HOYS, do you have any "tips from the top"? haha! :p
