I have a 2020 born pony who I showed last year in the youngstock/1/2/3yo classes.
His recorded DOB is April.
I am assuming he now cannot be entered into a youngstock class despite the fact he is actually not yet 4?
I want to in hand show him again this season but feel he will just be over shadowed by mature horses/ponies in the 4yo+ class.
Sorry, probably a super stupid question!

in showing horses automatically age up a year on the 1st of jan, so in the showing world he’s now considered a 4 year old.

not a stupid question at all, for a long time i took “ages as of 1st of jan” to mean that however old they were on the 1st of jan, is how old they’re considered for the season!

*technically* his age shouldn’t go against him, the judge should go off how he looks for his age, vs how another pony looks for its age, but of course it’s just how it is that a 10 year old will likely look better than a 4 year old! take him anyway and enjoy it, you never know what else will be in the ring:)
