Showing Appaloosa's; Do you plait them?

I have recently got an Appaloosa mare on loan. She is a leopard spotted appy ad we would like to show her either with or without a saddle but do you plait there manes? She has a lovelly mane that goes white and black and white and black and really would like to leave it flowing but anybody know?
 
I plait mine. She doesn't have a typical appy mane though, it's thick as anything! Takes forever to plait and I still end up with golf balls. It's usually only native breeds that are left natural.
 
When I used to show mine he was plaited because it suited him. I used to go to the breed shows and it used to say they could be shown natural or plaited, whichever suited the horse. There was always a mixture of both in the classes I did.
 
The general rule is that if it is a class you would plait for with anything other than a native, then you should plait, if not then left unplaited, if there is anything to plait! :D
 
I plait my appy and his tail.. we tried to bang it but would rather preserve our lives...
 
I plait mine.....well I attempt to! My girl has ridiculously wispy mane and tail so its always a bit of a challenge! The young man however will be easy as he has tonnes of mane and tail!!

I never plaited mine. But good luck to anyone who thinks they can plait her's!

Appaloosas can be shown, Natural, Hogged, plaited or pulled, what ever suits the horse best,
but if you were doing say a 'hunter' class, then you would plait,

I shown mine plaited and natural when I lived in the UK with her, and she did well either way..

though now she has a nice long flowing mane.. :-)
 
If you have a mane to plait then why not. If you are showing 'English' then you should go along with what other people do for classes just disregard the colour (maybe then you stand a better chance as so many judges dislike spots before the eyes!). If you are showing 'Western' then the mane should be braided - I am not very good at this as I spent too many years plaiting hunters! But as I have American appaloosas then they should be shown American-style. Though I have shown with a natural free mane and been placed champion.
Mine still has a mane and tail mainly because I rarely brush it!
