Showing at royal Windsor 2024

That's surprising to hear that there is no need to qualify for the showing classes at Royal Windsor. It's more of a pumped up local show that folk can rock up to with their no hopers, then, to enjoy a day out. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

It’s only really a huge county level show, just with no livestock and things. I’ve taken horses who aren’t really near the standard to Royal Cornwall and Devon County a few times and had a fantastic day out, and once picked up a third place in Ridden Connie / New Forest on a not really good enough Connie mare because it was raining sideways and she was a hunting pony used to fetlock deep mud while the show ponies refused to canter. I have beautiful photos, lovely memories and the chance to ride in lovely rings.

If you can afford it, there’s nothing wrong in showing above your level, the worst that happens is that you come last. It’s not like jumping where there could be an accident.

If I lived near Windsor, I would have had a crack for sure.

is there like a showing site or where you can read about it/what they except in your pony? ive read a few articles but quite brief

Have a look on Facebook for the pages for the BSPS area for your location to see if they run any clinics you could go along to.

Try too to go along to a few bigger shows to watch the classes 😊

The very fact Windsor was originally organised to raise money for the war effort, ie get local people involved, is probably why entires have remained open to anyone wanting a day out.

thank you! sadly dont have a horse yet aha but ill see if theres anything going on, suppose i could volunteer? thank you again!

For M&M WHP I'm pretty sure you only need a height cert. for HOYS.
My daughter competes BSPS Heritage workers (though not HOYS tracks) on her Connemara and we don't need a height cert.
I also didn't have one for our old C who did flat at County level.

You only need a height cert if you qualify for HOYS. You don't need one to do the qualifiers.

Shows are always desperate for volunteers and stewards! Even inexperienced ones as judges will always help you. So crack on and find your local BSPS/NPS/Whatever breed your into groups.
thank you, im looking at the BSPS site right now - do i contact the area chairmen?

What area of the country are you in? There tends to be separate mini groups for each society that hold their own shows. Looks for them and contact the secretary.
im in hertfordshire, i cant get on facebook at the minute either ahh all ive found is the hertfordshire county show sorry i dont have a clue lol

thank you so much!!!

It’s a great show :) I was there for the fei driving this year so weds- Sunday through probably watched less than usual. I’ve groomed both showing and driving before. If my driving class isn’t on next year I’ll be aiming to ‘no hoper’ in the coloureds, in a massive class!
10/10 would recommend. Rather be a no hoper having a nice day out to remember than be a sofa warrior. And it would be pretty dull and quick if only the producers turned up…!

I love your horse, so elegant and beautiful mover. So must watch the driving there one day - are there any other big competitions in the south/lower midlands area of the UK? Did spectate at one years ago and have looked at some of the Windsor obstacles but only those fairly close to the rings.

Worth going along to the BDS annual show at Smiths Lawn in Windsor Great Park, we used to go every year, in June.
Plus also there very regularly are the horse driving trials, usually monthly. (Its quite local to me)

We’re at Windsor park this weekend with the hairy one, then Cricklands, then Sandringham, then France.
But royal Windsor is the only 3-4* in the uk :) Windsor park is roughly on a par with unaff, Cricklands has up to 3* :)
thats brilliant!
