Well actually only one splint - B has litterally JUST decided to throw one. I was wondering how much this would affect her showing with the foal at foot? Should the foal be good enough I'd very much like to show them at County level next year, mainly for the foals sake - as in class for the foal, but B will have to be shown too, as foal classes are predominantly for foals out of mares in the preceeding class. Am I making sense? I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill. All thoughts welcome - even if it's a kick up the backside

If the splint has only just formed it will probably have reduced hugely by next year. One of mine threw a huge one and it really reduced so don't panic.

Even if it stayed up it would not be the end of the world and would certainly not affect the judging of the foal. Some judges wouldn't like it but I'm sure most wouldn't be too bothered at least it is not a curb!

Thank you!!! See, I just needed someone grounded!!

I think I should sell ALL my horses! Not only would my finances be healthier, but so would my health.............. I rarely worry about the horses I work with, in the same way I do about my own..............

Up to county level I have quite succesfully shown a horse with a obviously blind eye. That never seemed to worry the judges. Also Rags threw a curb and some judges didn't even mind that.

I am the same panic far more about my own than I do when riding or showing other peoples.

Don't worry, it will most likely be noted but if your mare is good in every other way there's no reason why she shouldn't do well and it would have no bearing on your foal's success

If it has just formed, then you may well find it will reduce on its own accord. May be worth trying some of the old wives tales to see if this helps (lemons, olive oil, cabbage leaves etc) - sometimes people have noticed a marked improvement with "young" splints.

CALC FLOUR - you can get it from all health shops and I swear to god it reduces every single splint. If its still forming I would give 5 tablets three times a day on the tougue (the dosage is quite weak as its for adults.) This sounds like a real pain in the arse but its a miracle worker. Maybe hippies are right about things...

A mare we were showing at the Royal was pulled in first and dropped down to 2nd, judge said it was due to her splint. But it hasnt stopped going champion at county level under other judges.
So if the mare makes up for it in other departments it shouldn't be a problem at all

Splintex silver & Calc Flour - If you can't get the Calc Flour let me know - I've got some (Its part of Wizzy DDs range).

To answer your original question splints don't usually matter in BM classes.
