I have just started showing with my 17 year old TB mare and my 10 year old TBXCob gelding and all 3 of us are new to it.

Please could you helo me on what tack and bits to use for
Riding Horse
Riding Club Horse
Ridden Hunter
Working Hunter

Thanks

riding horse is your coloured browband and double/snaffle bridle

riding club horse = pass

ridden hunter = hunter type bridle (flat noseband and browband double bridle / snaffle)

working hunter = similiar to ridden hunter only you can use a martingale and boots but must be taken off when doing your showing .

hi make sure that you dont change any of your tack for working hunter, you can remove any boots but all tack must remain the same ! so if you use a martingale for the jumping phase you must keep it on for the ridden phase.

i would also say that a double bridle looks better for hunter classes but if your horse is not fussed on a double bit just use an ordinary pelham (thats what i use as my horse has a very small mouth) x

i would say it was hit and miss with the riding club horse, i have qualified for championships in a pelham but other judges put me down the line and say i should be in a snaffle. so i would suggest a snaffle .....x

if you cant get on with a double try a rugby pelham - it looks just as good and less in their mouth if they havent got much room in there.

riding club horse some shows specifiy a snaffle.

for working hunter everything should be plain colour black or brown, tack should be plain and workmanlike, a flat noseband is good. nothing too fancy

No white saddlecloths/numnahs ever for anything. unless horse is light grey.

Riding Horse - Navy Jacket

Other classes - Tweed.

Beige breeches for all classes - not canary or white

Riding Club Horse is best shown in a snaffle and MAY be required to jump!!!

Best of Luck!!!!

Riding Horse - tweed jacket, navy hat (with harness if required), long black boots, spurs (dummy ones are OK), brown cane, brown gloves, shirt and tie. Hair in a hairnet. Horse should be plaited, ideally the tail should be pulled and not too long. Heels, ears muzzle etc trimmed. Plain leather double/pelham bridle with coloured browband. Plain leather saddle, with discreet numnah. Leather girth.

Riding Club Horse. As above, but perhaps with a snaffle rather than double.

Ridden Hunter . As RIding Horse, but no coloured browband.

Working Hunter. As Riding Horse, but no coloured browband. You can use boots (but these must be removed after you have jumped). No other tack change apart from removing the boots. You can use a martingale and pretty much any bit you like.

Navy jackets are generally only for hack and show pony classes and some evening performances.
