Just a few questions about showing as when my hores is up to good condition it really is the route i would like to take.

Working hunter = What sort of things does this entail? i have seen one before at a local show (but is still quite big) and the judges actually got on the horse, does this normally happen?

Showing = What does this entail, is it fully platted? show jacket and long boots?

Also for any showing clases is it ok to have you horses tail pulled?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the level you want to show at.
If you are doing affiliated/county level, then working hunters will be jumping over 3'6" and the judge will ride.

If you do local the jumps vary in height from 2' to 3'6" depending on the show. Sometimes the judge rides and sometimes you do an individual show.

Your horse should be plaited and trimmed with a pulled tail.
Show jacket should be tweed, long boots, spurs, navy harnessed hat, brown gloves.

he is a TB X he has no papers or anything like that, when he is up to weight he very much the hunting type.

It is better to show in the correct gear no matter what level you are showing at - you never know when you will want to move up a notch and it is polite to the judge to wear the right stuff if possible.

I do local level and do my best to look as professional as possible - the days of unplaited, jodies and shirt with no jacket are gone for local showing and it is sadly becoming very competative and less fun as people are now so serious.

That said I go to have fun and do my best to have mine turned out as smartly and correctly as I can. If I get a rosette even better

You can still get away with a GP saddle and black tack local level. For WH you will need a tweed jacket, shirt and tie and your horse plaited if appropriate and in plain workmanlike tack.

Try getting one of the showing books or go on one of the showing forums for assistance.

ohhh [****], i have got a brown saddle and bridle!!! how come it has to be black?

I dont want to do really high level, i get way to nervous, need to build my confidence up more as always think everyone else is better then me and no more then me! (which in most cases probably do) lol

p.s thanks for the advice

Brown is more correct, unless black happens to suit the horse better which is quite often in the case of coloureds. At local level as long as it is clean and fits the horse properly, then black, brown, leather or synthetic is fine!

Sorry what I meant to say is that you can get away with black if you don't have brown tack.

I did use black tack on my piebald mare - seemed to suit her better than brown, but we only were fun showing.

Don't stress, go out with the intention to have fun. Just make sure everything is as clean and neat as possible and your horse is well behaved.

Practice your individual show as home - keep it short and sweet - couple of figure 8s coming out at walk and then trotting one and then cantering one - if you don't do flying changes, then go back to trot accross the diagonal.

For hunters you should push on to a short gallop along the long side of the ring and then come back and halt before the judge. Don't attempt a reinback unless you can do it well.

Yeah that is all i want to do is have fun, i really aint the serious type. lol thats not really why i got him
