I'm hoping to show my piebald sports colt next summer, just locally for experience really. He'll be gelded by then, is due to make somewhere between 16.2-17hh, and is a big fella already. He's evenly marked, with 4 white legs. Now I have to admit I haven't been in the ring for maybe 15 years so I'm a bit out of practice! I'll be visiting a few shows this summer so I can get a feel for what's in and what's not. But so far I am thinking:

In-hand bridle (brown?), bitted but just something simple and nylon.

Lead rein attached to noseband only (unless he's a pain!), I always liked the white cotton ones but are these still in use?

Also, for myself... obviously with 4 white legs I need dark trousers. Tweed jacket, shirt and tie, gloves, cane. Only thing is, I hate hats! Riding hat, yes, but that seems out of place with trousers? I'm happy to put my hair in a bun but what's the general consensus on not having one? All advice most welcome :)

Havannah inhand bridle defo. If he is a gelding then a bit is optional but I think it looks smarter. The lead can be attached to either the bit or nose band. I have only seen the white ones in use for sports horses and welsh these days but I have no idea where you get them from! They do still exist though.

As for hats - I never show in-hand in a hat. If I had a beagler I would maybe plonk that on for my big horses. So long as your hair is neatly tied back out of the way in a bun or such likes then I don't see how not wearing a hat will be a problem. Saying that I think proper in proper Sports Horse classes I think it is compulsory to wear a hard hat.
