I am wanting to show my yearling coloured gelding this summer at local and county shows and wondered what i need to show him in. Do i have to have an in hand bridle with small rubber bit or a white showing headcoller? I didnt know if the white headcollers were primarily for natives?

Hi

Only Clydesdales youngsters and some Welsh get shown in white halters, everything else use in hand bridle yes usuually with straightbar rubber snaffle, and leather lead rein.

You should wear a tweed/hacking jacket with brown gloves, mart shirt - can be coloured and tie - all to suit yearling. Smart trousers and sensible smart shoes to trot up in - no jods or trainers.

Think some shoes ask that you also wear safety hats - ie riding hat/skull but beast to check this out first otherwise smart hair or nice brimmed hat.

Also usually carry show cane as well

Hope this helps

Thanks
Tia

What type of horse is he?

I show my trad cob in a plain in-hand bridle with a flat wide noseband and browband, with a small ring copper snaffle and leather newmarket coupling

He goes in trad/natives/cob/coloureds classes. He started with the copper lozenge snaffle when he was 2 1/2 - he had a rubber straight show bit before that which he didn't really like.

I think I read somewhere that if you have a horse with mostly white legs you should wear dark coloured trousers so the judge can see the horse's legs more clearly??
I guess lighter coloured ones for horses with dark legs........

Go to Tesco/Asda and buy a dozen of the cheapest white face flannels (about 20p each)and a couple of cheap white towels. Along with a spray stain remover (Supreme is good or Dungaway) and some baby wipes you will find these invaluable for removing poo and stains when you arrive at your show

Good luck
