I have been offered a registered 14.2hh 5 yr old connie, dun.

He would be for me to bring on and hunt, with the view for him to be also suitable for my son to share when he has out grown his 13.2hh.

As an 'adult' can I show the pony, both in ridden and WH classes? I assume that at local level this would be fine, but if he was good enough to affiliate?

Thanks

Ooooo you lucky thing :) i have a 14hh dun connie mare and she is the best pony ever , i hack her and my 10 yo daughter shows/jumps and i could'nt ask for a more level headed safe sane pony but she is also sharp in a very nice way .
And the best bit is she's the same colour as mud (she likes mud) so unless we do a big show not to much grooming :D
If she was 2in bigger the daughter would be without a pony and she would be all mine :D

Is he a full up 14.2hh? I would just keep in mind the possibility that as a 5 year old he may well be likely to have some more growing to do and could go overheight for affiliated classes. However, connies are fab - I got my first one quite a few years ago now and can't seem to buy anything else now!

Ditto the 14.2hh comment, but even if he does go over you can still compete in unaffiliated m&m classes. It just depends on how far you want to go.

There is also a possibility that he could be plaited up and turned into a show hunter/working hunter pony with your son. A lot of connies make the transition very well, it's just that adults are out of ages for these classes.

A lot of connies in the show ring are of the rather larger variety. You dont need to get a jmb (and prove you are under 148) unless you qualify for hoys/rihs.
Have a look at NPS for classes, lots of novice/pure novice qualifiers in winter series, age classes and summer series. Workers start at "starter stakes" at 2' and go up. Summer Champs at malvern is a fabulous show.
BSPS also do Heritage and PUK cover M&M too, so much choice!

Hi :) I have a 9 year old 15hh connemara that I bought aged 4 and he was 14.2hh then. We started off doing M&M showing classes and M&M WH classes and there were adults in these classes but your son can enter the PUK & BSPS Junior Ridden & Working Hunter classes so he'll be up against under 18s.
We now do plaited 153cm working hunter classes and senior SJ classes, but you can compete a 148cm in senior classes, so theres plenty of opportunity for many years to compete. GOOD LUCK WITH IT ALL!
