showing county level help please

I have been to a few local shows with my traditional coloured and he has done very well. I have been advised by two judges he could go to county level. What does this involve and any tips on clothing for him and me and costs would be great. Does he need to be chaps reg?
I show him in hand as only 5 and recently broken.
Any tips please????
