Would Hattie do ok in the show ring (bearing in mind she doesnt have the most flattering face in the world??
wink.gif
) and what classes would she do ok in?? we are thinking of dabbling in a bit of showing to widen her repetoire
wink.gif
she is mostly TB but with a strong drop of ID in there too. She has floaty paces but a HUGE engine and an extremely deep girth, also has about 9" bone i think.....

bad pictures but they may give you an idea!!

thankyou

stick a nice wide flat nosband on her to break up that white face and make it look a bit more flattering.

how tall is she?

LOL!!! i know - "once seen never forgotten" always springs to mind though!!

Do you think a big fat flat nose band would do the trick to break up her face?? and would it be worth trying her in a happy mouth pelham with two reins? (more correct than a fulmer happymouth!!??)

took the words right out of my mouth!!

she is 16hh

light weight hunters perhaps or RH classes. and some working hunter classes if she jumps.
I would also get her neck built up a bit more, but yes a wide noseband would make her face look much better

Yes she is striking - that is good!!
Yes nice wide flat noseband is correct and will look nice on her. A rugby pelham would be better then you can use a sliphead with it to look more like a double. That said Ice was happiest in his happy mouth pelham and I couldn't find a rugby pelham with that mouthpiece (things may have changed) so went with the happy mouth - never had any comment passed about that.
I insist on seeing showing pics when you go!

All those pics were taken atleast 6 months ago and she was only just 5. I will have to take some more recent pics soon !!! My gosh does she jump!! anyone fancy a horse that when it gets spooked in its field just trots up to the 5 bar gate and pops it, or gets annoyed that its not close enough to its companion in the field next door so jumps 1.20m of electric fencing fully rugged

grin.gif
think we may only do a couple of shows in between eventing but its better than nothing!! i will def. get my mum to take some piccies
grin.gif

i know its hard to see but what do you all think of her conformation wise?? i know most of her faults so id be interested to know what you all think?

What do you mean?! I love her face!!

She would do really well in workers though I have no idea about any flat classes! ( I dont do flat stuff
wink.gif
)

I thought your 2 were both 14.2's. OOPS!!
Shows how deceptive a photo can be.
She looks like she would be great in WH classes, prob too small for ridden. Perhaps I am wrong on this, but even the lightweights seem to be massive these days. Depends on whether you want to do big shows or local ones I suppose.
Just think how distinctive she is with her white face, she will stick in the judge's mind straight away.

Well Fiddler is 15hh so he's close to 14.2hh
wink.gif
grin.gif

It would only be local shows and poss. a county show or two depending on whether they clash with the eventing
wink.gif

now, I'm not qualified to comment show wise, so i shan't.

Except, is it just me or does she have the most amazing long legs?? she's lovely!!

Well you know i love her anyway.... but I think she is lovely and compact for a mare as they do tend to be a bit longer - foal room and all that. She looks an absolute powerhouse for her size in those photos - no wonder she can jump gates from trot! Lovely deep girth and lots of heart room - will give you her all and be brave about it. Whats not to like?
grin.gif

i think it may be the long white stockings that create an illusion but she does have back legs like a hare - dont know whether thats very desirable!!!
blush.gif

(im making her sound like a disaster zone!!)

She's brilliantly put together from what I can see. Agree with all that icestationzebra has just said- real little powerhouse.Only thing I can see that's perhaps not so good (but its hard to tell) is that feet are small and flat compared to the rest of her body? espec the front feet. Maybe ask your farrier to shorten her front toes a bit more to give her more heel?

aaww bless you - i will tell Hattie that someone loves her when i go out and hay them in a minute!!

erm - what's not to like.......the added difficulty that comes with having a young chestnut mare - speaks for itself really!!!

nah ill really love her when she gives me a clear XC ride
smile.gif
thats my real aim this year
blush.gif

you've picked up on her main fault!! flat TB feet - grr - farrier has done an absolutely fantastic job with what he had to start with and they look a hell of a lot better now but they will never be perfect
frown.gif

Sounds as though your farrier's on the right track! Yes darn TB flat feet they are so annoying, grrr! Her back feet look pretty good though.
Whats her breeding again- isn't she Ballinvella lines?

She is very smart (although you know that's what think!) - is she really 16hh, or is there a possibility that without shoes she is 15.2? She really is a bit too small to do open affiliated LW hunter - although there is no minimum height, most of them will be a good 16.2 and bigger. However, for amateur and local hunter classes, she would be fine. If she gives a big ride, she may also get away with being slightly smaller in the open classes as well. As far as workers are concerned, these are open to all types of hunter from 15.2 upwards, so height should not be as important. As everyone has said, you will need to get a broader, flatter noseband (I had a horse with a lot of white and the noseband makes a lot of difference). It also allows the judgeto recognise her easily though, which may well be a good thing in a large class. I wouldn't worry too much about the feet - in showing they are often under a pile of grass or mud and judges won't come and pick them up (unless they are judging best shod horse). It would be interesting to see her without the massive saddlecloth covering her up! Also, for a hunter she would need to go a little more "up".
You should definitely give the affiliated classes a go - if you end up doing "normal" hunters, then you don't have to have a height certificate, just register you and the horse.

She would probably also be able to do large riding horse, but there are only about 3 working riding horses in the whole of the country, so if you wanted to jump, it would probably not be worth your while joining.

I am sure you will have a lot of fun in whatever are you choose to do.

The other thing you should think of (assuming you have not competed at RIHS or HOYS with her) is the Search for a Star classes. She would be eligible for Riding Club Horse, Hunter, Working Hunter and Riding Horse/Hack classes. I am sure she would do well, and if you get through you would be riding at HOYS this year. Definitely worth thinking about!

Thankyou FMM that was very interesting reading
smile.gif
Thing is she has nil ring experience so that would mean she would look extremely babyish in a search for a star class wouldnt she?? Though it may be worth a try
grin.gif
laugh.gif

Yes she is very down hill in that picture - she is much much better now but occasionally gets like that - getting there though
smile.gif

SFAS is intended for less experienced show horses. Believe me, some of them can't even canter properly (although the top ones are virtually county standard). The venues can get quite busy, but enter a few classes and she will get used to it very quickly, I am sure.

If she were mine, then I would definitely consider the SFAS classes - you will get very good judges (Richard Ramsay and probably David Bartram), who will give you lots of really useful feedback. And you can't turn down a chance of going to HOYS! You also don't need to be a member of anything, so you can test the water with some decent judges, before deciding if it is worth affiliating her. I know a number of people who have gone down this route and had the time of their lives!

She reminds me of Harley, a horse my sister rode for a few years. He too had a big white face. His noseband was about 2 inches think. Jenny was more focused on eventing so he always looked too fit to be a proper show horse. Although he did come 3rd at the Working Hunter Final at Blair Castle - its quite a big competition in Scotland. However I think it had quite a bit to do with the fact both judges knew his owner from when Harley evented, although he did put in a good gallop! This is the only photo I have of him.
