So I've qualified for second rounds in a veteran showing class aiming for Olympia 😱😱😱so I've decided I need to start looking the part and smarten up, rather than my usual skull hat with a velvet I'm looking for a velvet hat with flesh leather straps, went to my usual tack shop expecting to pay £100 odd and turns out it's more like £240 😳 Although looking online I've seen gatehouse do one called hickstead for £100, looks ok by pictures but am I getting ripped off in tack shop or is online to good to be true?? Or any recommendations?? The one in the tack shop was called fian and it was the only one they did, I asked them about the gatehouse and they said it won't be pas approved, is this needed for showing?? Especially as some people show in top hats?? Tia 😊😊

Have good read of the rules under which your entry is run before spending a fortune. I don't show veterans so not a clue, but some of the recent hat rules have changed.

It completely depends on the society you are showing under, some require the PAS and some don't.
The gatehouse hickstead is a nice hat but doesn't meet current standards.

The Fian is he replacement for the non compliant Fiona. It is a super slim showing hat and only came out earlier this year so still very expensive

That said the Charles Owen h2000 and showjumper xp are both good hats for showing, slightly less slim than the fian but still lovely and you can get them for around £120 each

Hi there, I show up to county level and use a Just toggs showjumper hat. Much lower price tag but still has the PAS tag. Mine is very comfortable and not too bulky, as some feel huge when you try them on.

The Fian certainly isn't streamlined! It's bulky as he'll!

I got a Charles Owen one that is fully compliant to everyone's rules for £110 but I got kids size 😂😂😂 they'd normally be £125-130.

Compared to the other Charles Owens ones it is slim

Yea the fian felt massive!! I don't overly like show hats....so slimline would be a advantage for me! Right going back to tack shop today so will have a chat with them and see if they can order something in, they did measure me and politely said order on line if I can find something cheaper, they only stock the fian, tried child size and couldn't even squeeze it on Thanks guys
