Showing Hat Question (M&M)

Well, I've now sorted out my jacket, shirt and tie (thanks to everyone for their replies and advice).

My jacket, boots, cane, gloves are brown. My hat is black. I cannot afford a new hat! Is it acceptable to use a brown velvet cover over my black hat?

I am only showing in hand at the moment, but hope to be doing ridden soon, M&M at local level.

I would use the black hat without the cover if I were you

it'll look a little odd with the rest of you in brown, but i wouldn't put a cover over it. you'll be ok at local level. and when you do buy a new hat, navy is just as acceptable. for showing my welshies i have a navy hat, green tweed and tie, cream shirt, brown gloves and cane, black boots and at the moment black tack, but when i can afford it i'll change it to brown tack.

Thanks - I'll stick to black hat then.

I also want to change my tack from black to brown. I've got the brown bridle, but I think the saddle may be a few years off yet!
