Showing help please - qualified for USOC eeeek!

I am coming with 2 ponies. Bringing my black welsh sec D for the inhand welsh, ridden welsh and walk trot dressage- she has a wonky stripe and I wear a blue shirt. Also bringing my palomino and White Shetland for hairy coloured inhand and Shetland class- he is easy to recognise! I just hope noclasses clash! Good luck everyone.

Well done - lovely little horse. Few things that may help.
I would stick with the turnout of the lady who showed him last week for you - tweed and tie etc - which is correct for in hand showing - not a stock. However, her jacket needs to be stitched at the back as the hem has come down!
Also, I would try to plait him so the plaits are standing a little higher on his neck (hope that makes sense?)
What "type" is your horse. It is not always correct to show in a brass browband and depending on type, your judge may comment on that.
Good luck!

Rudey, I will be easy to spot if we go ( she has cut her face today ! ).I'll be the one holding the horse that won't stand still and won't stop whinnying. She gets very excited.

I will keep my eye out for you! What class(es) are you off in? Oh mannn, no way, ruddy typical just before a show they have to slice and dice themselves! xx :)

Well done for qualifying.

We are taking our hunter mare for the trip out. Not sure what to expect of her but its a good day out. We are doing the hunters (ridden and inhand), Veterans, and the concours at the end of the day. Typical first class 8.30 and the last at god knows what time. Will look out for you and say Hi.

Thank you very much, same to you! Ouch, first class at 8:30 a.m. - that's never funny! Are you far away, staying over? I imagine you're going to have a very early start! Good luck, be sure to say hi if you see us! xx :)

Oh fantastic, I hope to see you! I think Rox's coloured class is in before yours (he's in the plaited and trimmed section), I will probably see you nearby the ring waiting! Wishing you the best of luck, I hope the weather is good for us all xx

Oh gosh, thank you for such an informative response! Muchly appreciated! :)

My friend Davina is the girl that showed him last week for me, and she is doing him at this show - I have facebooked her and prompted sewing skills needed for her jacket! Thanks for noticing (I hadn't), you have got a great eye for detail!

Yes, the plait comment made sense - I've been watching Youtube videos trying to learn how to use thread, and it was a suggestion made on there for horses that have long thin necks.

Hmmmmm, not so sure whether it is the correct browband for him? When is it okay to use brass browbands? He is a french TB x Coloured traditional cob. He is entered for the younstock inhand class, and the coloured (plaited and trimmed) class. Do you think the brass browband will be incorrect?

Many thanks for your help, I'm a total showing numpty! :o

Thanks for the good luck, it is most definitely welcomed! xx :D

DOH!! Ignore me Maybedaisy - as soon as I finished replying to everyone, I realised who you were and had already stated you will be in the same class as Rox and the veteran class! I hope if I see you, it is you, and I don't approach a random stranger saying "hi, it's Rudey, are you Maybedaisy!!" LOL! :p xx :D

To be on the safe side, I would probably use a leather browband. You can't go wrong then! He would also suit a chunkier weight bridle, but if you want to use an in hand bridle, then you are pretty much limited to the thin leather. SOmething to think about for next season when a "normal" bridle would look better on him perhaps? There is a great article on H&H from many years ago by Moggy Hennessy talking about how she tries all sorts of bridles on a horse - colours, sizes etc - until she finds the "right" one!

Thanks FMM, you have certainly given me some food for thought! I will see if the tack shop has got anything suitable in tomorrow. I will have a search for that article thanks, I need all of the help I can get!! Thanks for your help! xx :D

our yard is only 20 minutes away so will feed around 5.30 and then wander up. If the numbers on the USOC website are right we are number 78.

I have just bought a new concours costume so want the classes in the day to go fast so I can try it all on for the first time. Had the skirt on this week and she didnt mind but i want to put the full kit on - I love the dressing up.

Hi i was at the show last weekend too with the little coloured shetland in your class and the youngstock class. We qualified too but can't go as my oh is at work and i daren't pull the trailer on my own. Just wanted to say good luck. Are you going to the show there at the nd of the month?

Oh wow, I would love to see that class - have you got any idea what sort of time that will be on? I might see if we're about and have a look! You will have to post photos! PM me if you do! Good luck! xx :D

I have no idea what time it will be on, its after the workers but i think that will finish earlier than the other classes so might be a bit of a rush (as always).

Will put a link to my facebook photos after the show.

Good luck to everyone competeing

Oh mannnn what a shame, isn't there anyone else that will sit with you? Where abouts are you? I'm setting off from Messingham at 6:30 a.m. if you were anywhere nearby, you could follow me? :)

Just a thought, if you end up not going to USOC, I was going to take him to Flixborough (Tawela Park), they are having a showing show on Sunday.

Errrrmmmm I am hoping to go on the bank holiday, I need to beg somebody show him for me, are you off? I've managed to get someone to show himm for me at Holton-le-Moors show in Normanby-by-Spital the weekend after, are you going?

Thank you for the good luck! xx :)

I will have to keep my eye out for it. My friend Emma is coming with us, and she has started doing hunter classes these last couple of years, I know she was keen to see how the hunter classes run there, so we might catch you as long as our classes don't clash! xx :)

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE - see you all there!! Hopefully I will have a well behaved pony and I won't end up in a heap on the floor ;)

LMAO! eeeeek this is what I have been dreading lol! I have said to my friends all week, as long as he behaves and I get a nice picture of him in the ring, I will be happy! Fingers crossed they remember what manners are for! :D

See you there, hope you have a great day, good luck! xx :)

Thanks for posting those pics, (diet starts for me tomorrow after looking at those)!!!! I would have gone to Normanby as it's only a mile from us but we are on holiday then. Going to Epworth, then may do the show at arena uk on 11th September and only today i found a show at Southwell on the 25th of September. There are youngstock and coloured classes so may go there too. Depends on Ruperts coat as he is starting to cast already. Yes he is still all there and he knows it!!!!! He really fancied that sec D stallion last weekend!!!!! I was really proud of him as he is only 13 months and it was his first ever show and the first time he has left home to go anywhere. He can be a sod at home but he was so good there. Epworth show at the end of the month is a qualifier for next years usoc so will give it a try. Good luck Sunday let me know how you get on and if you know of any other shows coming up. I have a yearling filly too, sports pony type so would like a nice quiet outing for her.

Congratulations on your qualification - hope you have a fab time - and your boy is absolutely lovely!! I'm very jealous as I qualified at Epworth last month by winning Ridden Hunter and Working Hunter but have had to rule it out due to transport and childcare issues (OH had pre-booked weekend away) :(

I'm sure you'll have a fab time - you HAVE to post pictures and a full report :D

Thank you very much Cazzah! Well done on your placings! Oh no you're joking! Us Epworth qualifers must have a omen against our OH's! MagicMadges hubby is working and that's why she isn't going! My OH has gone away for the weekend too and I would have loved him to come with me. My friend Davina is showing him, and I am dragging along two of my other mates too, we're going to have a truck full lol! Selfish OH's... lol! ;)

I will definitely post some proud mum photo's, eeeek I can't wait. Sorry you're not coming! :( xx :)

ETS: Where abouts are you from? Are you off to Epworth on the 30th of this month? xx

Not a problem sweet. I don't normally take photos of other horses, just concentrate on my own, but he was such a cute little chap, I couldn't resist! Rupert is the most adorable name for him! :) He did really well, definitely something to be proud of.

Yes yes, I will keep my ear to the ground and let you know of anything. Oh, not only is Flixborough on this Sunday, but so it East Halton.

I will have to keep an eye out for you, and hopefully I will see you at Epworth! xx :D

Rudey was it you that won the inhand coloured. If so congratulations. I think you might have come up to me and asked if I was in Horse and Hound. I was having a blonde moment and didn't realise you meant the forum. Doh !

Dante got 8th. The judge seemed to lose interest when she found out she was 20.

Yes that was me who spoke to you! I was eyeing up your horse thinking I recognise that horse, I'm sure it was the horse in the pictures on my thread. Nice to meet you anyway lol! I have a photo or two with you and your mare in, I will upload them for you. Well done for getting 8th! She was beautifully turned out, she's got a gorgeous face. A real credit to you! :)

Yes it was my lad that won thank you very much, my friend Davina was the one showing him for me. I am in total disbelief, it still hasn't sunk in! I 'm going to do a thread for everyone to share their USOC experiences and photos shortly! xx :D
