Apologies if this has been asked before, I did do a search but I have been getting confusing answers. having just obtained my first horse after a 20 year break I have decided to enter the world of showing in the summer. Having looked about and researched the different classes I think we'll go for the riding club horse :D:confused:
But, could somebody please tell me the correct turnout for horse and rider. I am still collecting up riding equipment (have brown toggi boots to ride in and skull cap with black silk at the moment) so as I go I can buy the correct colour boots and hat to show in.

When I did a riding club horse class with my friends mare 2 years ago the correct dress was a navy velvet hat, tweed jacket, coloured browband

To match your tie, canary/ beige kids an black boots, horse had brown tack, no martingales, flashes ect, snaffle for local comps and a straight cut saddle with a saddle shaped numnah to match colour of horse. May have changed by now so may be corrected!! Also should carry a show cane and it no spurs, or atleast thats what I was told!
 
Dont forget the riding club horse classes usually have a "small" jump. We got caught out after qualifying for it at a Championship. The small jump was 3'6" :eek:
 
Oo yes sorry all plaited and tail pulled, shouldn't be a major problem regarding black tack if it's a local show :)

Plaited and tail pulled, plaited tails are old fashioned.

Navy silk not correct, but it depends how seriously you want to take it.

Correct is navy velvet hat with leather flesh coloured harness and hair in a bun.

Again black tack is not correct but would only go against you if there was nothing else to choose between you and someone else.
 
Black tack will be fine, although havana is more correct it is not going to matter really. A velvet hat would look much smarter than a cover, maybe wait until you decide if it is really what you want to be doing then gradually build up what you have rather than trying to get everything at once.
The horse should be plaited, trimmed up and tail should be pulled.
 
My friend does very well in riding club horse. She has a kwpn and wears navy hat and jacket with white shirt and I think a red tie but not sure. Also cream breeches and black boots but I prefer white breeches. She has a matching brooch to her horses coloured browband and her horse has black gp saddle and sabre show bridle. Close fitting dark numnah. No flash, snaffle, no boots ect. Plaited up, tail pulled, whiskers off, feathers off and hair around coronet off.

I agree with rockysmum.. I personally would follow that dress code... Especially white jods that's a big no no
 
Oh Crikey 3'6"!! You are joking?? So I need to invest in navy velvet hat, long black boots, tweed jacket, coloured browband and get trimming. Anything else?!

Show cane, not expensive to get a plain leather covered one, gloves brown leather preferably, you can often find really nice silk ties in charity shops, I now have a super collection in a range of colours.

OK Green tweed jacking jacket, cream shirt, tie, tie pin. Blue velvet hat with flesh coloured harness and hair in a bun. Beige breeches, long black boots, brown leather gloves and show cane.

Sorry :D

But you dont have to have it all to start with, you might not even like it
 
No spurs.. When I did this class the jump was 2' max but championships may be different, we only did it for a bit of fun :)
 
Lol I guess we just do our own thing ;) to be fair, she hasn't been placed outside top 3 and looks very smart. Personally, there's nothing more I hate than canary jodhs but each to their own. But I'm talking local level here.
