Hi all! Hoping to start showing Mini Cob in hand next year at local shows. I've been looking for a tweed jacket to wear for both in hand and now ridden since I've been given the ride of a lovely piebald traditional cob. I need something that's going to match with both of them which is what I'm finding tricky. I'd prefer a lightweight jacket. Don't want anything too out there, e.g bright pink over check like some I've seen. I've got £300 to spend but I'm begrudged to spend that much just for local shows! If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be most grateful.
I'd post pictures of horses but not sure how haha. Saw a lovely one in Robinsons, it's not on their website. I think it was a Caldene? Green tweed with a very subtle blue and pink over check, thought it might be a bit too un-traditional? Gah, I wish they did in hand dressage instead.

Have a look at mears, Mrs candy and caldene. Pick your tie colour and find a jacket to match, is what I find easiest. Mrs candy should be able to make suggestions if you send photos. I really like the pikeur tweed it's darker than most but I was eyeing it up to go with my piebald mare!

Thank you! I've never shown before so not really sure what is appropriate and what isn't haha. I've been to try on a few jackets today and now I've got another issue, jackets with four buttons on look silly on me. Because I've got such a short body, I found the ones that look best are jackets with two buttons. Back to the drawing board!

Have a look on eBay. I bought a lovely Mears Pytchley jacket that had hardly been worn for peanuts. I much prefer the traditional tweed jacket to the modern patterns.

I have recently bought a lovely Caldene green tweed show jacket, the Silverdale, looks nicer in real life than than the google images! Was only about £120 but fits me really well and is a lovely green tweed which is what I was specifically after.

Although this probably doesn't help in the slightest, this is the Caldene green tweed jacket that we got for £40 brand new in a Equestrian shop sale off eBay. Our daughter wasn't doing anything Pony Club related when she got dressed up like this, she just wanted to try her new jacket on with the full kit! (She actually sat watching TV!).

(I think I did the same when I got a new wetsuit when I was about 12, I wore it around the house for about 2 days!)

On a slightly more helpful note, eBay is definitely your friend, especially this time of year when many equestrian outlets put their sale stock on there. Most reputable eBay shops let you return items within 14 days, or you may also get a second hand bargain.

Darbs, your daughter is so adorable! Love that jacket, very smart. Will have a look on ebay, the only issue is I'm not quite sure what type of tweed will compliment both a skewbald and a piebald. They're both more grey than colour but what seems to go with one wouldn't suit the other.

I've found there are secrets in showing that people don't really talk about. For example, I'm just getting into it really, but in the rules it says for my classes you can show in black, navy or tweed. I've been really sad looking through pics at county shows etc and everyone is in tweed. So you decided in tweed but then what colour! There are so many, so I emailed the society and they said tweed and a plain tweed. Soooo...I would go for a plainish green tweed seeing it is a cob so would be hunter ish style? Not that I'm an expert by any means at all, just saying what I've learnt

Both are traditional cobs so I'm assuming everything should be plain and workmanlike. Mini Cob can't be shown in cob classes though I think as he's 13.3 on his tip toes so was going to show in the coloured class and best ridden pony. Other cob will go in ridden family type and best ridden horse as she has full feather and tail but a pulled mane so can't show her as a traditional

Try the shires huntingdon jacket in dark green they are beautiful, and cut perfectly. Not too pricey either. They look smart with coloureds as well.

I think these are good for the money

Go for a green or brown tweed. The blue tweeds have too many people that dont like them and its never worth risking coming up against a judge that feels that way

This website will help for correct attire for each class http://www.ivyhouseshowing.co.uk/html/turnout_guide.html
And this one is good for colour ideas

For me when showing the most import at thing is fit- a neatly fitting jacket that just allows a little bit of cuff to show in a complementary colour and a good tie colour. The hat colour should also complement. So a green tweed looks best with navy hat, a brown tweed with a brown hat and the grey tweeds depending on tone navy or black. Most horses seem to suit a greenish tone
