Hi Can someone please help me with what me and my horse are supposed to wear?
I's been a long time since I was showing: brief history- finally found my dream horse, although he has a heart murmur ( I brought him to event but now am turning to working hunter/showing/dressage due to the above) He is an ISH 16.3Hh, chestnut with white blaze and one white sock) 5 yr old. A bit too tall for lightweight hunter but not quite enough bone for MW, so working hunter is the plan (plus we love our jumping :) )
I have:
grey tweed jacket, beige breeches, long black boots, shirt, tie and navy velvet hat, brown gloves
for him:
vary dark brown/havanna GP saddle (almost black), black shaped numnah, black leather girth, black bridle with rolled noseband and brow band, he is currently in a snaffle.

Is this OK? or do I need to change bridle to plain cavason?

can I plait his tail? or does it HAVE to be pulled?

thanks in advance!

I would invest in a hunter weight brown bridle with a flat noseband rather than use a rolled one which will not really look the part, a brown numnah/ girth would look much better on a chestnut as more discrete.
You can plait his tail but a well pulled one will be more correct if you want to show at county level, otherwise turnout sounds fine.

Is the heart murmur bad enough that you cannot event him? they do sometimes improve with fitness depending on the cause, I had a little mare that "failed" her vetting due to a murmur, the purchasers went ahead anyway and it improved, she went on to do endurance with no problems at the vettings.

I was thinking the same about the bridle, the most annoying thing is that I sold a brown cavason double bridle about 3 months ago!! Haha!
Are quarter makers a good Idea?, especially as his hindquarters have still got a lot of muscling up to do.
Yes he has mitral valve disease and a slightly enlarged heart, I have to keep him fit and obviously be careful with how much I do with him if he is unfit, but it makes no difference to his everyday life and I still take him out competing with no issue :)

Hunters usually have rectangular brush marks at the top of the quarters, play about to see what suits him, with sharks teeth underneath but depending on the horse and it's coat you may find it best to do none until he has muscled up well.
