I'm taking my ex racer to do one of the HOYS qualifiers on saturday - nerves are starting to kick in now! Just a few questions...

1) What should my groom wear? I'm thinking chino style trousers shirt tie and beagler? Or does the hat have to have a strap?

2) Any hints and tips with our turnout? There are quite a few piccies of him at www.showgroundphotography.com

Its prob easier to look at my favourites login email - rebadlam@hotmail.com and password - animal and there are about 30 photos of us! Any hints/tips CC welcome!

Thanks

Haven't looked at your photos but just be very clean and tidy and well polished. If your horse is a hunter type go for a plain browband if hack or riding horse then jazz him up with a snazzy browband. Collar and tie not stock, discreet numnah. Have a look at the photos on the SEIB website. Groom sounds fine, no need for chin strap but think a well turned out groom appreciated Sorry if teaching you to suck eggs but make sure that stirrups and stirrup leathers are long enough to put down for the judge. Smile, have fun and listen very clearly to the stewards. Let us know how it goes.

hey were going as well!! I cant wait! we did the one at addington and missed out by one place! I thought the class was really good fun! caNT SEE YOUR PICS!!

Hi hanna87! Did the judge ride at addington? How come you cant see the pics? I'll be the one on the big black beast probably jumping around all over the place! x

when going round in the ring and you need to go infront of the person in front of you, move to the inside of them but not when in front of judge as that is seen as very bad manners.

if you can get there early so you can work in the ring before the show, and show your horse any beasties that may be lurking

Yes he will its david bartram. He is really nice rider and rode them all beautifully plus he knows his stuff!! There was also another ride judge at addington helping him out but there was loads entered in the class so maybe thats why.
I would say to just be aware when you go in as there was a few crazy tbs in there! if yours is a bit lively stay clear and get in a space as there was lots in the class at addington and it got a bit hairy in the canter!! Not that I have that problem, tom is a donkey hes on oats at the min to try and wake him up (obviosly why he failed miserably when racing!)
Will look out 4 you anyway, most of all enjoy it!!
