Hi Lovely people, a long shot I appreciate but - anyone on here a showing history person - or could point me in the right direction to research more?

I've recently inherited 2 photos from my families long lost horsey past.
The family folk law is that this horse was sold to the King at the time (c.1907) to be a present for the Queen of the Netherlands - absolutely 0 evidence for this! Oakington Ringabells apparently is the horses name.

The cups I thought there might be a slim chance that someone might recognise if they are still in use by a breed society somewhere.

I thought for a long time my horsey obsession was new in my family so I'd love to know more about what went on 120 years ago!

Brilliant thanks - I'll look there. I can't quite make out the inscriptions (actual cups are long gone) I just have one 120 year old photo !

I think one says List of Awards won by Willam Nisset
The one with the handles has 1901 at the top and
the other has Stratford at the bottom

Really hard to make out

I've downloaded and zoomed in the photos of the cups and the first one has Park Gate and Stratford St Andrew at the bottom and the word Barley in the first line. There is a Park Gate farm in the village of Stratford St Andrew in Suffolk. The second cup has 'for the best Cambs barley' and there is barley engraved on it. Could the cups be unrelated to the horse and be for growing barley? Are you in East Anglia?

That's fantastic thank you.

It's certainly possible they are unrelated to horses - the two photos came together so that was an assumption on my part.

there is part of the family that was Cambridge at that time.

I 'think' cup 3 includes the word 'chevalier' which appears to be a variety of barley which has specific links to Suffolk - see https://beerandbrewing.com/dictionary/ATZOtv7Wj1/ . This links all three cups to growing barley and Suffolk/Cambs as opposed to the horse. Of course that doesn't mean the horse story isn't true. This is all very intriguing.

I too would like to find lists of horses in royal studs. My grandfather's horse Skibereen (bought there in Ireland) was apparently sold to the King of Denmark after WW1 and went there with his groom Walter Roseblade. I have searched for the horse but know nothing.
