Hi

Just wanted some advice and any pointers really. I am going to show my yearling at county level this year in sport horse - hunter and ID sport horse classes this year. He is registered with the ID society and over stamp sport horse. Do i need to be registered with sport horse too? Any turnout tips for me or the pony.

Here a couple of picks so you can see his type. Any showing pointers would be a great help thanks guys.

As a foal month old

And currently in a hairy state

i will be doing the same classes this year with my 2 year old. all you need is the overstamp when you are showing inhand, its only ridden when you need to be registered. its hard to give you turnout tips without seeing how you would usually turnout. have you ever done county showing before?

Not in hand showing ive done riding horse with the mare but never really looked at the babies until now and i think opps maybe should of taken alittle more notice lol
I plan to plait mane and tail and the general might just go and watch some early classes for tips as not planning to take him out till July - August give me a little more handling practise
I'm going to do a few classes to see what will suit him best on the advise of somebody else
Good luck with your youngster

definatly a good idea to do a variety of classes as this will give him lots of experience + every judge will have a different opinion. i would say if he will let you then pull his tail, as this will give a more proffesional appearence. + obviously do quarter marks with a comb rather than a quater mark stencil sheet. what shows are you planning on doing?

Fingers crossed Midlands county and Burwarton as its down the road from me. And planning on one of the irish draught shows wich is local as well, only going to do about 3 or 4 this year and then maybe some more next year when he has matured a little more. I only weaned him last week from my mare and he 11 months now but he has been so good loaded striaght into the trailer and was no bother at all have been so impressed with him so far but just don't want to push him in his first year just do a couple of shows with a couple of classes and then bring him out again next year i think is enough.
What classes are you doing with yours and where?

Look at some of the photos from last years county shows - there are plenty on the websites - or back issues of horse and hound.

Generally, you should wear sensible shoes, shirt, tie, hat, gloves, carry a cane. Wear plain trousers - cream probably with your horse - and a tweed jacket.

The horse should wear plain leather.

i will be doing sport horse and riding horse classes and possibly hunter dependent on the show + the judge. she is a throughbred + never shown before, all i have done is taken her to 1 in february where she won 2 out of 3 classes, so i was really pleased with her!! she is very sharp + nervous so we have that to over come. we will be doing kent county, possibly east of england, any show i can get 2 down south really! i would like to do bath + west as thats a lovely show!! this is my girl:
