Showing in a full cheek bit?

Now I'm obviously not a showing person - and I can't recall ever seeing a horse in a showing class in a full cheek or fulmer bit. Can you show in one?

Can see why they wouldn't be allowed in any other class where snaffles are the norm, I guess full cheeks are just perceived as bits for young unfinished horses. They're one of my favourite bits however!

In local novice classes you would probably get away with it but not in open classes.

I have done many times at local level. If commented on at all, they've asked if the horse was young. In my case though, they always were!

Now I'm really curious - why?!

Other than the fact that maybe a plain ring looks neater?

A plain ring is neater and doesn't alter the picture as much. Once out of novice classes you are expected to wear a pelham or double bridle.
