Saw a leaflet this weekend for a local show next month, had a read and they do an in-hand class. So I'm considering taking Susie my new New Forest pony.

Do I have to buy a particular bridle? Or a particular type? Particular bit? What do I do about the reins?
What do I wear?

Tips greatly needed :D

Just a normal snaffle bridle and you can either use reins or an in-hand rein/stallion rein.

I wear cream jodphurs with a hacking jacket and on my jacket there is a blue velvet collar so I have a blue velvet hat. Everything has to look smart! Also I wear jodphur boots.

Not to be rude but how old are you? It changes depending on age :)

A riding hat?
And I'm seventeen but if that puts me in some form of childrens class I'll be entering as 18.. haha :D

If she is 4 or over use a normal snaffle bridle, take the reins over her head and lead from them. The bridle should be plain with a flat hunter type noseband ideally.

Hmmm new bridle then :D
Her bridle was always going to be a temporary fix so I'll have to have a running on fumes petrol week and invest in one..

Tweed jacket and trousers, if she has black legs you should wear a beige colour.

She has two white socks at the back and at the front both her legs blend from bay into black. I'll go for beige just to be safe I think.
Is she actually worth taking? (Don't worry you're not at risk of offending me:D)

Looking at the photos of her she is worth taking, I would tidy her mane a little it would look smarter slightly shorter and a bit thinner at the top, if you plait it over loosely the night before it should lie better and enhance her neck.
Your only problem is that being in Wales there will be mainly Welsh ponies at the show so a nice NF may get overlooked by the judge, it is all good for her experience and gives you an excuse to spend time pampering her.

I'll pull it nearer the time then and spruce her up! Thanks for the suggestion I'm hopeless with ponies :D (and horses the majority of the time:o)

I did think this, you never know, she might stand out it could work in her favour :D Even if we do terrible I'm not too worried, it's a nice excuse to get out with her and get to know her a little better!

Do I have to write down the name on her passport? Its awful (Sally-Anne) :(

If its just local level they probably wont mind what you call her on the entry but if they want her registered name you will have to use Sally-Anne, is she registered as a NF with that name, they usually have a prefix which makes it seem better.

Her passport says shes a new forest but her name has no prefix its just literally 'Sally-Anne.' Her passport isn't worth bothering with, no age, no parents, no past owners apart from the people we bought her off.
Hopefully it doesn't want her registered name and I can just spruce Susie up a little..

So she is not registered as such, it will just be a generic passport so you can call her whatever you want at the show, you can probably get her name changed if you want, it will cost but it gives you the chance to pick something special that suits her.

Yes its just a run of the mill passport. That's good then, at least her 'real' name can remain a secret in public!

Foxy the thoroughbreds passport is another run of the mill one (pleasure horse society) so does that mean I can call her whatever I wanted to?

Yes, Foxy can be called anything you like, unless you affiliate when they must be registered with the name on the passport. If they have a breed society passport I think it is unfair to the breeder to use any other name, even if it is awful but with these general passports most have pet names, often with no thought given to the future, so I will give them a name for days out.

Fantastic Mrs Fox it is :D
None of them have a breed passport so I won't be upsetting anyone I shouldn't think. Going to have to think of a nice name for Susie now :D
