hi all
Just a quick question, Can i show my tb in hand? He has a scar to his back leg that hasnt grown hair back yet! Not really wanting to win anything it just to get him use to going to shows, as he went to his first one at the weekend and didnt cope very well. Lets just say i ended up on my face after he reared so high he fell over. Any help gratfull recived :)

You can show him, the scar will go against him but if you are only aiming for experience for him then bash on! The more the better! Can you cover it over to make it less noticable?

Yes, if you are only doing low level there should be no problem. To be honest i have found as the years go by judges seem a bit less concerned with scars and bobbly cannon bones with few even feeling down the legs in ridden or in-hand classes! If you are not looking to win then it wouldn't matter anyway- it wouldn't stop you competing in the class even if the judge did take a disliking to any marks you would merely get marked down and be lower down the line up. :)

thanks for your help! once the hair grows back it shouldnt be a problem, i usally have him in exercise wraps so nobody knows but with showing he cant wear them. could try and cover it?

What colour are his legs? Black? White? Brown? For Blacks I use eye liner pencil. White's are chalked to the nines and browns are felt tipped pens mixed with wax crayons. I'm not a fan of boot polish!

of course you can show him in hand but i would be inclined just to take him to a few shows to look and learn and calm before showing him let him graze in hand and chill. work on showing him in hand at home - there is an art to showing a horse in hand to get the best in front of judge but manners are a must as with a ridden class - then hit the ring and wow the judge :) good luck hun xxx

Judges are not supposed to touch the horses except in best conditioned at local level.

Cover the scar - i love cover magic spray for such things - and give it a whirl.
