Showing in the ring

I have a 4 yr old Sec D gelding he went away for 6 weeks education and has come back, he has been going well in an indoor arena and outdoor menage, holding his head nicely and forward going, we going hacking a few times a week and outdoor menage twice a week. He has only been to 2 local shows and is still young but in the show ring seems to nap at the corners holding his head to the side and doesn't seem forward going - any tips.
 
Taking him to shows just to be a part of it, but not actually having to concentrate or work is good for building up his positive experiences. :)
 
Thank you both, that's what I thought just to take him along for experience. I also thought about schooling him in some open grass areas without the support of the menage or arena walls, may build up his confidence etc...
