We did our first ever show yesterday, a first for the horse and a first for me who normally stands in the middle of the ring photographing the class!! The judge was lovely and very constructive, she absolutely loved him and thought he was spot on conformationally which we were over the moon about. However he did get very excited in the individual show... we did this one below:

But when we were meant to come back to trot on the diagonal and go into left canter, we instead had 3 huge flying changes!! So I need an individual show that does not involve cantering around the corner and then coming back to trot on the diagonal as he just gets too excited. The show above was also a bit short and compact. Can anybody suggest a show that would suit us a little better please? Horse is stronger on right rein and has a fantastic walk so want to show that off :)

Ta :D

Well this is pretty much the standard show to do. The only other thing I tend to do is not canter in the first corner, but do the first change or rein in trot, followed by a canter on each rein.

Whatever happens you will have to show a simple change of leg through trot. Some people are starting to do serpentines but thb, not many do them well and they can be difficult to fit in if the ring is small.

You could try cantering a circle instead of half a circle at each end?

This is what we normally do, not sure if it will help you. Your show should be short and sweet not a dressage test.

Thankyou :) spotty your show is really similar to what we did but the sticking point is coming back to trot on the diagonal, he thinks it's easier to do a flying change! So I wanted to eliminate that element from the show. Our show was the shortest out of all of them so I wondered if it was a little too compact... so have drawn up another one and will see how that rides tomorrow :)
