Help please!!
I'm 19 years old and want to take my 14hh pony in a riding pony class.
I know she needs to be plaited, no saddle pad with a colourful browband.
But what do I need to wear??
Do I wear long boots or short?
Please someone help as no idea what outfit is acceptable as an adult in a pony class!

Thank you!!

I would check the age restriction first because riding ponies of that height should have a rider who has not yet had their 17th birthday on Jan 1st of the current year. However, if it is just a little local show they sometimes make up their own rules regarding adults on ponies.

Also never wear tweed, tweed is for show hunter ponies and M+Ms. Riding ponies should be shown in a navy jacket.

I have emailed to ask with regards to age restrictions, I only have a black jacket and black short or long boots, which would be better? Also which jodhpurs? And is it a tie and shirt?
Sorry to ask so many questions!!!
Thanks for replying! :)

Also, this is my mare, she is a part breed Connemara cross with riding pony, could I do an M&M class with her and what's the turn our and outfit rules with that? Sorry very new to showing but would love to give it a go!!

You cannot do the M&M classes as she is a part bred, if there is a part bred class then you turn her out as a riding pony if she is of that type.

For the riding pony class wear long boots, cream beige jods, not white, and a shirt and tie which go with the velvet browband, you should wear brown gloves and carry a cane.

My long boots are black is this ok? Also which colour jacket? Thank you for your help:)

Long boots should be black, no problem with them being different to the brown tack, gloves and cane, ideally the jacket should be navy but black will do if that is all you have, tweed is for ALL other classes in the show ring except riding ponies, show lead rein ponies, arabs and show hacks, so M&Ms, hunters/ hunter ponies etc will be shown ridden in tweed.

Riding ponies (aka show ponies) under 14.2hh should be ridden in short boots not long boots. Long boots are for intermediates and 15hh hunter ponies.

Have spoke to secretary and there is no age limit:)
So brown tack, navy jacket and hat velvet, Canary jods, brown short boots, gloves and cane?
Then pony needs to have mane and tail plaited?

Totally agree! Ponies = short boots. Beige or canary jods - NOT white! Jacket - wouldnt worry too much dark blue or tweed but pref tweed. Velvet blue hat or skull cap with a velvet cover. Any colour shirt with tie and matching scrunchie around a bun with a hairnet too. Brown gloves and brown tack.

Only a tweed jacket if it is a hunter pony, navy if it is a show pony type
