Showing loser!!!

I got my first 3rd place rosette at the weekend! It was a part-bred class & there was no judge ride but the judge told me he gave me the highest mark for my ridden show piece - talk about floored! You would swear I won!! I was literally deliriously happy!! What a little rockstar my boy is!!

The mega big show is next week - we have a date with last place!! :p:D But we have had the most fun training and prepping ourselves for this moment so I'm gonna just put our best hoof forward and enjoy every second! I'm so excited, so many friends and family are coming to cheer us on - what more could we want!! :)
THIS IS WHAT IT'S ABOUT!!!
Trust me, when you have that moment of crossing the finish line of an XC with about 20 people clapping and cheering or you do a gallop in your individual show and there is a woo-hoo from your supporters, or getting pulled in last of the placings (but getting pulled in) and a huge cheer goes up, you cannot help but well up with tears! Being a winner isn't about red rosettes, it's about doing your best and enjoying every minute.
I look forward to your report and get the bubbles on ice... “In victory, you deserve Champagne; in defeat, you need it.” — Napoleon Bonaparte.

i showed my youngster mainly for fun and her education. she did do quite well and even won her 3 yr old class at essex county, which was my forever highlight :) but i had such fun and felt so proud of my girl and felt i took the best horse home.. because of showing where she saw lots of big lorries , pony and traps and horses jumping and galloping about , she was an angel to do anything with when she was broken and was confident on roads etc. so IMO its very good for youngsters as long as they are not over shown. i only did 2 or 3 shows in a year....

I too just go along for fun. I like the big county shows because of the atmosphere and the space and just like being part of it. I don't have my own transport so don't go very often, and I am a bit lazy in that I don't do masses of preparation, I also don't invest masses of money it into it with lessons or expensive products/tack/clothes.

I am lucky enough to have a handsome native pony but I don't expect to win against the more experienced dedicated people but it is fun to be in the big rings. Sometimes I get a surprise good result. I have just started doing the SASDL veterans and have done quite well in those classes but these are classes for amateurs so more level playing field.

I just feel incredibly lucky even to have the opportunity to join in.
