Is a spotty horse able to enter a coloured showing class? It’s just a local show. I don’t want to do all the grooming if we won’t be able to enter. What’s the definition of a coloured horse please? Thanks

Some local shows have combined coloured and spotty classes, your best bet is to contact the show secretary and ask

Ask the show secretary. Coloured means different things in different breeds.

Traditionally coloured is Skewbald and Piebald. CHAPS only allow skewbald and piebald.

In standard Shetlands anything that isn't black is coloured. So bays, greys, chestnuts, piebald, skewbald etc are coloured.

Local, unaffiliated level tend to let spotted in coloured classes if they don't have their own class.

I have a spotty and unless the class specifically says “spotted”, I always ask to be sure. Most places now have either a class for all coloureds, or have them separate as Coloured and Odd coloured

My local show even allows roans and palominos in the coloured class! They aren't eligible to qualify for the CHAPS/STARS/whatever stuff, but they're allowed in the local class.
