Ok I know this has been done a million times but how do you measure a horse’s bone?

Also what are the categories of cob with their bone measurement e.g HW or LW?

Can you show a cob if it has an 8.5 inch of bone?

I measured Bodey’s tonight but not 100% sure I got it right, and think he may be too light to show????

Big thanks,
Jo.

It is just below the knee. It is not just the amount of bone, but also the type of bone. For example flat bone (i.e. where from the side the bone is broad but from the front it is narrow) is better than round bone (where the bone is almost as broad looking at it from the front as it is from the side). And no judge gets out a tape measure! Some horses with 9" of bone look lighter than those with half an inch less - the colour of the legs can make a difference, the way the horse has his legs clipped will make a difference.

You need to ensure that the whole horse looks like a cob and the bone is only a small part of it.
